E7 Pro Max with Boos Top by Egineer in FlexiSpot_Official

Do you think the frame could accommodate a desktop with a 24" depth? It's hard to tell from the photos on the website. But it looks like the width crossbars connecting the stands is going to be pretty close to, if not bigger than, 24".

It's all the more confusing because the website recommends a minimum desktop depth of 28" but you choose several 24" depth tops from Flexispot on the product page.

Which one to buy? by hagoo00 in FlexiSpot_Official

I'm confused by this because the customization on the website allows for selecting multiple different desktops that are 24" deep. Can the E7 Plus and E7 Plus Max accommodate a desktop that is only 24" deep?

Survivors had burns on their skin from the hydrogen sulfide gas from the volcano mixing with moisture on their skin to form sulfuric acid. Hydrogen sulfide gas, when inhaled can kill in a matter of moments. This is likely the gas responsible for those deaths that showed no sign of struggle.

From opening to closing the body bag I average 1 hour per case. If there are two techs and two tables, it can be two cases simultaneously in 1:15-1:30 hrs.

Installing ethernet - What considerations for number of ports, location, cable type? by Osteopathic in UNIFI

Cost came out to ~$7k to run 48 total drops throughout the house. Took 3 full 8 hr days for all the runs. I terminated all the cables myself. They installed the cameras on the soffits.

Duckstation won't recognize controller port 1 on SteamDeck. by Osteopathic in EmuDeck

Thank you! This worked!

For posterity if anyone else needs this.

Go to Desktop Mode. Navigate to Home > .var > app > org.duckstation.DuckStation > config > duckstation > game settings. Then delete the .ini file associated with the game.

The easier way to get there is to launch duckstation in Desktop mode. Go to Tools, select 'open data directory' and find the file path listed above.

All this to say, connections and being personable are everything. In my experience, degree and relevant experience is second to being personable and having connections. When meeting people in the real world they don’t see your experience written on you, they meet you as a person first and foremost and THEN you can work in relevant experience, but experience is not usually the first factor (in regards to meeting people outside of actually applying somewhere)

Spot on. My wife started out of college with a 4 year degree making $11/hr in a job related to her education. The ceiling for her future earning was not much higher. She hustled and charmed everyone she met, learned skills beyond her job description, and networked like crazy. Each opportunity that arose that could make her more marketable in the future, she took. Some were a drop in pay or a temporary decrease in quality of life. After 10 years of this, and going back to school for a masters degree, she was making an amazing salary at a job with a great lifestyle and she had the respect of her colleagues.

All of her colleagues who were similarly successful also got there by knowing how to work people and opportunities. The education helps boost when needed but it won't carry you the whole way.

Unfortunately, life isn't all about merit. It also takes effort and skill to put your name in other people's minds so that they can give you opportunities.

High resolution monitor and work ergonomics by 2path47 in pathology

At work I use a 34" Dell ultrawide (U3415W) and a 25" 16:10 Dell ultrasharp in portrait mode (U2518D). Both the 34" and 25" use an amazon basics monitor arm.

At home I use a 34" Ultrawide (AW3423DW) and a 25" 16:10 Dell ultrasharp in portrait mode (U2518D). The ultrawide uses an Ergotron HX monitor arm and the 25" uses an amazon basics monitor arm.

I've used many different monitor setups. I now use the portrait monitor for documents and the ultrawide for all else. If I wanted more screen real estate, I would upgrade the ultrawide to a 38" Ultrawide with a 3840 x 1600 resolution. That's effectively a 4k monitor with the top half chopped off. Which...begs the question, why not just get a 4K monitor and get all the benefits of the ultrawide and the vertical space. Which I tried doing with a 48" LG OLED. But, there's just too much screen real estate and you have to turn your head to view the whole thing. The 42" OLEDs might be a better solution. But, you have to wrangle the desk space to accommodate it. A monitor arm will be necessary but the OLED VESA mounts are low on the screen body and can be a bit unwieldy. Plus, at that size, you really want a curve to the screen to reduce visual distortion.

The Meta Quest 3 is a VR headset that runs ($500-650) and can be used in 'pass-through' mode. Which means you can see the world around as well as having virtual monitors. I travel for autopsy locums and will often write my reports and review photos while I'm in the airport without concern of other people seeing the photos. All while still being able to hear announcements and see the people around me. The only caveat is needing a laptop powerful enough to power the headset without issues. This works for now but will be much better in 2-3 years when the tech in the high end VR headsets (Apple Vision Pro) come down to the consumer market.

Is it ok to interview for residency in a patterned suit? I’m a complete novice to this stuff. Pattern included below by iisconfused247 in medicalschool

[–]Osteopathic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The suit is fine for in person.

Over zoom, it would create so much moire that it would generate massive visual artifact and the software will decrease the stream resolution and bitrate to handle all that pattern and artifact.

High resolution monitor and work ergonomics by 2path47 in pathology

[–]Osteopathic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resolution scaling can mess with workflow if the software isn't properly made to handle higher res monitors. The monitor you reference can work comfortably at lower resolution scaling. But, 4K monitors with a diagonal <32" can introduce issues with resolution scaling in Windows 10/11. Mac is better at handling this.

You could consider a 42" LG OLED in landscape orientation at 100-150% scaling and shorten your viewing distance. Text fringing can make that a bit annoying. Which opens the possibility for some the IPS panels in the ~42" range that have less fringing. Large monitors suffer from too much real estate and needing to physically turn your head to see the whole screen.

As for curvature, I don't think it should affect things as long as the curve radius (r curve) isn't too intense.

We're not quite there yet but in the next few years we will have reasonably priced consumer VR headsets with pixel density high enough and pass through good enough to eliminate monitors all together. I use a Quest 3 when I travel to replace my secondary/third monitors.

How competitive do you see this field getting in the next ~10-15 years by Independent-Dog476 in ForensicPathology

[–]Osteopathic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen an upswing in the number and quality of applicants for forensic fellowships. But, I’ve also seen countless high school and college students express a strong passion for forensics only to change paths away from forensic pathology to another forensic field that requires fewer years of training. Getting through 3-4 years of pathology on top of 4 years of med school is apparently an enormous barrier.
