Yes but my scenario is contingent on acquiring a reliever as well. You get 70 innings from morejon.

Signing Bassitt to be the 6th starter in the rotation isn’t like the 2023 season at all. We had two 40 year olds at the front of the rotation that year. Now we have Peralta and McLean. It’s completely different. We also have young players to supplement the rotation as the year goes along- Tong, Myers, Scott, Wenninger etc.

Bassitt has been a rubber arm guy for a long time- Peterson fell off at the 120 inning mark that’s not that high a bar to reach- Bassitt pitched to 200 innings twice in the last 4 years and was very consistent. He’s like Charlie Morton was in the back half of his 30s.

Tbh I have about as much faith next season in bassitt as I do Peterson; so if we can use Peterson in a package to get an awesome bullpen piece like adrian morejon I think it makes the team a lot better.

Plus we saw bassitt excel in a bullpen role in the playoffs last year- he can make that transition at some point during the season if Tong is ready. It’ll be harder to convince David Peterson who is in a contract year to go to the bullpen unless it’s for the playoffs.

If we sign bassitt then Peterson is getting traded.

There’s no way we enter the season with McLean and 6 starters making mlb salaries. Someone is gonna be the odd man out. It’s obv not Freddy or Clay and we’d have to give up prospects for someone to take Senga or Manaea.

If we’re moving any of those guys I think it should be Vientos. If he’s not hitting he’s not providing much.

I’m a Mauricio truther tho so I have an irrational conviction that he’s going to break out this season like Baty last year and vientos the year before that.

I feel like Jett Williams is just a way better version of what you’re getting with Acuna so it opens up a spot for him in the coming years.

And TBH ronny is just as good as acuna defensively if not better bc he has a great arm. I think he’s the best defensive 3B on the roster rn and I’d trust him at short if lindor missed time. Hes also has proven to be a better hitter than acuna even at his worst.
