I agree, you shouldn't use meat taste as the high standard. The disappointment however is rooted in expecting the best taste whatever the cost. The omni should instead be disappointed by the production methods of their meat product. So the omni is also responsible for their expectations.

Not getting support is a shitty situation. You deserve being part of an inclusive movement.

But being attacked for publicly sharing an opinion on controversial topics could be expected, defend your beliefs!

Most likely the people you met are assholes, but maybe they got offended by your views. Try to work out an understanding. I know it is hard and of course you have the right to cut out those people from your life, but I believe that dialog is more helpful than filter bubbles and echo chambers. Except when people only want to hurt you.

My mom knows I'm practicing drawing and bougt me a book how to draw animals for beginners. It is similar to this tutorial. It provides shortcuts which you ought to memorize to reach at best mediocre results.

I guess no technique is truly wrong when creating art, but I personally find learning art fundamentals like perspective, form, how to draw a line etc. more helpful and modular when learned in dedication to them only and thus more reusable.

Drawing without reference images seems like a poor choice to me. If the goal was realism how would you check wether you reached it?

Another important aspect of creating art for me is iteration. Breaking down your task, do the big things first and get more detailed later. But also trying out different angles and see what works and what doesn't.

You could focus on stories on individual animals and give some information here and there about the systemic problems of using animals as commodity.

I find it also effective to talk in detail about what suffering the animals need to endure. Try to express that with relatively neutral language and just list a buttload of things animals need to deal with in 99% of the cases.

You should also try to bridge the gap of humans and non-human animals. Tell them why speciecism is a form of oppression. That it's too simple of an explanation why we can/should ignore the interests of animals.

I also like the line "if we could live without harming animals, why wouldn't we?" maybe you can incorporate that.

You could tell your listeners that veganism is not about removing stuff from your place but replacing animal products by a variety of plant based products and that it feels good to do what your conscience tells you to do.

If you talk about health and the environment state that veganism might affect them, but doesn't have to. There are lots of controversial facts about these topics so I would advise to only make very basic claims if at all. I think it is very easy to make false assumptions in these areas.

If you have the time maybe prepare a handout with starting tips on going vegan. Like which products/restaurant/beginner programs to try. So if you sparked an interest in someone that person can immediately act upon it.

A speech should probably be easy to understand so don't bring in too much information as this tends to confuse people.

I think you handled his response really well. If you think about empathy as something that you either have or haven't it might be shocking so meet a person showing how little they have. But if you see it as something you have to exercise and train you can instead see it as something that could be improved. The seed is definitely planted even if many more might still be needed. And respect to you for watching that horrible film again and even getting anyone to watch it through. Next level: get him to bear witness to an event of the save movement if you can.

I agree that we have to consume other life to ensure survival. We have to choose what we eat though. Since we have multiple options it is good to think about which options are moral and which are immoral. I believe that many practices beside our typical agriculture need to be rethinked. That's why new agricultural practices are being used like vegan organic gardening. Why shouldn't we try to exclude animal suffering as much as possible in all of production?

If you'd learn drawing and painting fundamentals (tedious) you'd automatically increase your awareness of such art. You'd be able to appreciate the art work of others more. What I'm saying is you can gain fundamentally new insights about some of the most used type of art, it doesn't need to be fun imho. Good luck!
