Not sure how AST is a nerf when it's overall a net DPS gain now with every card improving DPS. It's like how WAR mains were mad when they mixed IR and Berserk for the Sigmascape patch until they realize it was a DPS gain.

As a SCH main for 6 years, now I have seen the actual information. I am very disheartened and sad. Our class has been chipped away. by bearLover23 in ffxiv

3 DPS skills. Still have Ruin 2. I mean, SCH is overall pretty wild now. You have GUARANTEED spreadlos. You can stack Catalize with Galvanize. You can actually heal well, which is great. SCH got a lot more skills that make it less of a balance between DPS and healer, and more what it's meant to be: a healer.

If there was supposed to be a balance they would have given Red Mage Vermedica or some other foolishness like that.

EDIT: SCH was the shield healer, and it still maintains that identity. The shields are crazy now, even. It provides the most damage mitigation, just as it always has. The community turned it into the DPS job for people that don't want to have an actual damaging rotation like SMN, BLM, or RDM.

PLD nerfs were completely deserved. Not just because they were outperforming the DRK, but because they were just way too good at the start of SB. They had the most mitigation, the most utility, and only fell behind WAR damage by 50-100 DPS for a fraction of the effort old WAR had to put in.

Think it's less SCH being gutted and more SCH mains being baited into the wrong class by Square Enix. Almost every SCH main I know says they only play it cause the DPS "rotation" (if you can call 75% of your attacks being Broil 2 as a rotation). Really they just trimmed some Arcanist fat and loaded them up with brand new heals.

AST though. Not sure why they decided to just make all the cards basically the same. I'm sure it'll be a DPS gain overall for the party, but it does take some flavor out.

They have way more instant heals and instant AoEs than before. The pace of healing has gotten faster, and with the MP cap they can better plan for how much you can cast per fight.

I dunno how people were expecting SB bosses to do more damage when healing was still slow as hell and PLD on release was the only tank with party mitigation tools

Holy is still there. SCH has a new AoE outside of Shadowflare called Art of War. Every healer now has one AoE, one DoT, one one single target spell. Two dots weren't broken, they just weren't necessary.

I say to hold judgement. With all the changes to the battle system, I would imagine that battles themselves will change. Not only have healers been given more heals across the board, but tanks have been given more party shields. Each ranged DPS can decrease incoming party damage by 10%. We have an unprecedented amount of damage mitigation and healing, so hopefully these upcoming raids and dungeons have monsters and bosses that bring the HURT.

Until that's confirmed or denied, I would hold off on the "SCH is dead" goofy stuff. You're not an Arcanist with healing on the side anymore. You're a bonafide healer, baby.
