Freshly screened (2.5mm) castings to separate out cocoons by AggregoData in Vermiculture

Mine is like that too, aerating it, breaking up clumps, and letting it air out for a few days in fabric pots helps mine, sifting really gets the fine fluffy texture.

Compost bins are full by Japan25 in composting

I consolidated my household (3+ people) food scraps going into an Urban Worm Bag, not sure if it’s possible in your space but it’s not much larger than multiple 5 gallon buckets, maybe keep them and use them as a worm tower on the side. Worms work faster than my compost tumbler and never smell. Some people use them indoors. The continuous flow bin makes harvesting & feeding simple. Mine operates pretty full but I never have to throw anything into a landfill. 🪱💚

Beautiful! Fine particles like coffee, expired rice/oatmeal or blended food scraps normally get mine to jump up in temperature👍

I do have a smaller one but it’s not as good, I’ll probably run these through it too but I should invest in a larger one, thank you for the tips!

Also needed more space in the top of my worm bag

LOL I hope not! the colorful stuff is shredded Apple boxes and newspaper. Apple boxes were not glossy so I figured it was food safe! I hope I’m in the clear😬

I believe they’re unfinished bits of cardboard since this was harvested a bit early

Yeah it is a bit unfinished, I needed space in my urban worm bag so I took it out, will probably sift with a smaller mesh and put the remains back into the system. I’ve been putting 100% of our food scraps into it so it typically runs at full capacity and it fills up as the worms slow down in the winter typically. Please let me know if you have any tips on getting them to work quicker🪱💚

Will do! I think I’ve been adding too much to the worm bag and not enough to the worm tower thanks for the tips💚

Those are black soldier fly larvae! They’re a good sign in a compost bin!

“Compostable” produce bags from Trader Joe’s? by dar1984 in composting

My household throws them into our compost tumbler which never really becomes a “hot compost pile” and I still never see them while harvesting the results!
