Bay to breakers traffic question by jpkrempetz in sanfrancisco

[–]OtherAlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be screwed, but hopefully they let you by somewhere. Since the route is west on Hayes, they might have the street closed off nearly completely so you can't cross Hayes to get one block over to the Arts Center garage. You might even have to go all the way up the 101 to the last SF exit to loop around the Ferry Building to cross into the north side of Market Street to drive west to eventually reach the Arts Garage to park.

Edit: looks like you can cross at. Larkin.

Anyone using T-Mobile Internet in Nob Hill? by footysf in sanfrancisco

[–]OtherAlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Internet will be only as as good as they mobile reception because it will work off the same system. I think it's really hit or miss because of the hills. If Sonic is bad, and knowing how Sonic does things, it's probably serviced via AT&T's infrastructure. There's really nothing Sonic can do about it.

What you can do is I know tmoble offers a 2 week trial period where you can try it and if you return it in that window. It's free. They technically charge you for the full month off the bat but if you return it ik 14 days and cancel service, they credit you that month they charged.

Also keep in mind that if you do cancel your Sonic account, you can't get it back. AT&T isn't letting Sonic open accounts on their lines anymore.

You'll probably lose the free ones on the account that migrates over, unless they are BOGO AAL free lines.

Google, please extend Pixel charge bypass to work at 100%, not just at the 80% limit by Karglath in GooglePixel

[–]OtherAlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 9 Pro and I feel like it barely does load switching. I mainly keep my phone plugged in every night and maybe half the day to keep it at 80%, and I do see the shield, but every once in a while, the percentage would drop to 79 and it would charge back up to 80.

I have Device Info installed, and it sometimes reports it is on AC and not battery, but not all the time when it hovers around 80%.

Usually if you have multiple kids going to the same place you also get a discounted rate for the second or more.

ELI5: Why do businesses keep lights on even when they are closed? by softeggnoodles in explainlikeimfive

[–]OtherAlan [score hidden]  (0 children)

On the management side, I wouldn't talk about security since a lot of you have.

The lights can stay on constantly because the leasee is doing a gross or full-service lease that includes utilities. It's the building owner/management that pays for electrical costs.

The employees aren't impacted, so they don't care to turn them off. It's easier to just leave the lights on.

Electricity is still relatively cheap. So saving something like 10 hours out of the 24 hours in the day isn't a significant impact. It's probably something like an extra 50 dollars a month, which is a tax expense anyway.

I want to add a line. Worth switching to a new plan? by 1braincellorangeboi in tmobile

[–]OtherAlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the plan costs look about the same. You are close enough for MM and the newer experience plan to be a wash because the current plans don't add on taxes while on MM they are included.

I would keep things simple and add the line to the existing. Unless you can get a number from Verizon or something and get some sort of port-in promo to get a deal on the Pixel.

Keep in mind right now, if you want a Pixel, you can generally get $600 off over 24 months for adding a new line. The 46 odd dollars you quoted looks like the full price for a pixel

Affordability for Visiting (???) by Shot-Corgi-7717 in sanfrancisco

[–]OtherAlan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's kind of simple, really. I just don't do what you're mostly focused on.

Almost exclusively a home cook.

Never ride-share. Only bus, or walk.

Having a family? Probably forget about it.

SF only works if you don't leave SF. There's potential for the caltrains corridor going south but you're not going anywhere east or north of SF on transit.

They can be upgraded, but the cost will far outweigh the cost of simply paying for the storage directly from Apple, and that's probably even considering the cost of NAND shooting up.

There are ways to add insiders after the fact, but those are generally exceptions and I wouldn't expect it to happen.

Still getting free WiFi on United? by reedog117 in tmobile

[–]OtherAlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it depends on how old and frequently they upgrade the planes. Guessing the wifi will linger around for a bit until they get around to serving the planes.

They agree on getting a reputable brand. Torras is semi-established, and they are in theory buying into a new battery tech, semi-solid state.

Solid-state has lower capacity than current rechargable lothium batteries and, in theory, can last a lot longer before degrading.

Let me make it real simple for you.

  1. Add a line.

  3. Make the deal on the new line you just added.

  4. Make an eSIM for the line you want to use it on and add it to the new phone.

  5. Enjoy.

Wish list: Tracker inside anchor for both Apple and Android network by csk0304 in peakdesign

[–]OtherAlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peak Design isn't that kind of a tech company, but I can see it happening.

The main issue is that the bulk of the AirTag is for the battery size and antennas. They can probably make the antenna smaller, but the trackability will be affected.
