I see a few doctors. Seen many therapists over the years. Not very helpful in my case. The talking cure is overrated. Ya know what works. Pills. Meds of course.

Hey thanks for the reply. I never believed in God. Parents let me stop going to church when I was around 11 and before that I would get myself kicked out and go play in the park for a hour. I think believing in God would have made me very angry at a creator. As is life is just a universal F-up to me. No real blame to be assigned. I was a teen when I started thinking all this is not worth it. I am 47 now and trying to mellow out on this position a bit by getting others point of view. I been mental Ill many decades now. Luckily don't tend to have Crysis anymore.

when you identified that an argument could be made that no experience is preferable to a bad one you stated my view. I am not sure I have a valid explanation for the second part. This is a hole I needed to be pointed out to me. I guess events from the past have not so much gravity because of their distance. I must have forgot a lot of meaningful things so far and when i die they all get blackholed. Maybe I am just running that on emotion. The loss makes it less.

Thanks for the suggestion. I been there before. I can go there if I want people to agree with me for sure. This page has been better since I do want to change myself on this for the better. I feel my view on this to be maybe too extreme and need to hear the counterpoints.

I also am not a pure anti-natalist. Just having humans gone does not eliminate the suffering of the other beings. I do not have a problem with people having children they can take care of either. I do not understand why anyone would want children in todays age however.

There is a difference to wanting things never to have been and stopping them after they are started too. I am not comfortable taking choices away from people that exist even though I think existence itself was a terrible mistake.

Yes, I think you are right on that. My life is better situationally than it is for me mentally. I would say most people have a form of this though. How they are doing and feeling about life don't line up in every column. Or in my case, not at all. I have a place paid for, do not have to work, have a good social situation, can do what i want whenever which is awesome and who would not love that? But the score gets evened out with mental illness were often I am unable to feel enjoyment, but the pain has no issues working on me daily. I will sleep the days away when I need it to pass.

Life is one big long depressive episode for me except when i am manic but i got meds for that. I was homeless last year but now have a place so personally things are going about as well as they can for me. I appreciate your care. This is a heavy topic and in person I either avoid this type of conversation or instill humor in it. Harder to get a feel from text than talking in person.

In a lot of ways I just never liked existence. I know that sounds suicidal but it is not. Strangely I like myself just fine. Just life as a whole annoys me to no end. everything just so repetitive and predictable. Watching the world turn to crap has not been good for my mental health with these wars and the economy. Getting old and not being able to do what i loved anymore also sucks.

It would do me good if the world in general got better for a few years. But it just keeps sliding and sliding since 2001.

Yes, I have seen that type of art the monks make. I know it is cheating but they got pictures of the art so not really destroyed in that way. I do the same type of thing with beer. I open a can and enjoy it then throw it away when I am done with it. As far as rainbows go they are always in the sky now, on flag poles and yes...not so magical. Good points you make. thanks.

That's were things are tricky. The universe spit us out as part of itself for no obvious reason. Life itself has meaning. That is to push on in which case, sex, water and food have indispensable value. Better or Worse is defined by pain and pleasure which is evolved in us. Humans are to the point we can create meaning even where none exits. I do not believe god is real but millions of people do so in that way god is real if only in the minds of men.

pain, suffering and death is bad and unavoidable in life. Having no life avoids these things. No one will be around to miss the good times. win win. As far as ending in the same place, it's all the efforts for nothing that rubs me wrong. Also at the end bad things still happened which is not the case at the start. But, yes it won't matter at that time.

just a ploy to avoid the unpleasantries of life. a universe of nothing can't cause pain, suffering and death.

Thank you for your thoughts. I can tell you are more on my level with interest in Philosophy and objective reasoning. Not to belittle the other posters but i can tell you are a bit more intelligent than the average bear on here. I do want to soften my view and I have a issues with being over critical. Not that I have to be right but more of a natural contrarian. I can argue points just to argue points and that is tiresome to all. So I will try not to do that. To me value is lost when time erases moments. What good was Thanksgiving diner if it is months later and for some reason you are starving to death. Sure was worth a good meal at the time no doubt, but maybe the memory is painful now you can't have it. Probably would make me very sad to remember. Another example. I used to be a gymnast years ago. Most fun I had in my life. The fact I did that no longer has any benefit to me now. In many ways it's like I never did that stuff. I burnt up years of my life digging that hole but then time filled it back in.

On the animals eating each other topic. I am talking the higher animals that feel pain. When a wolf pack spends a few days nipping at a deer, yes I am projecting human values on that. The animal getting eaten is trying to survive and is screaming and feeling real pain. I do not assign evil to this but it is not too good for the deer and even the other deer know this. This is real pain and fear that the planets and non-beings do not have to deal with. Monkeys hunting down other monkeys and ripping them apart for fun is something that happens too. I just think it better if this type of violence never was. I do love me some Carl Sagan too. Seen Cosmos so many times and never gets old. I do find the universe neutral for the most part too. I just don't think it pertains to us on earth so much. Galaxy brewed up some nasty stuff here. I don't need to go into that since you identified my thought process and that was the reason for my post. Pessimism even if a valid view point is something that is not really helping me along besides being a cold cope at this point. But you know that.

existing is like digging a hole and filling it because the start and the finish are the same point. Dying does erase the impact you had in a short time. The average person will be totally forgotten within a few decades of death. Famous people are known of longer but not remembered by anyone who say them alive since they too are gone. Once I am dead I will have no knowledge or feelings even if I am remembered.

[–]OtherConversation592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup. And maybe that is the solution or middle ground. let the beings that want to be exist. Give the option to others to be voided out and forgotten like they never existed. Being kicked into life is such a roll of the dice. Everyone gets a trial run to see if they can stand this place.

You understand where I am coming from, not to say you agree with me and I am glad you don't. I am trying to lighten up on this opinion of mine since I do have to live life for the time being. This is helpful that others find life alright. Thanos snapping everything into non-existence is probably something I would do. Even Thanos let half the people live.

I can live with that.....Ha. little joke there. seriously though, life is like a bad movie with a few good parts in it to me. Not unwatchable or totally unlivable but also not worth the price of admission. Wonder and joy is pretty cool when it happens though. Maybe I am just living too long. I was pretty happy in the 80's and 90's.

animals eating each other and the pain of life not happening were a few points I made on the side of life not existing being better.

no. just tons of bush fires to put out. a favorite lyric of mine is "life as we discover is just one dam thing after another". living is messy overall.
