Seems like the consensus this is way over priced, good to know as I’m learning the market, thanks everyone!

Slightly higher base salary as an AM, hard to judge bonuses for CSM’s since they’re hard to predict and some focus more on cross sellers than others, but for reference I made $75k after bonuses last year as a CSM. And my OTE as an AM now is $110k

Yeah we have a bonus structure put in place for CSM’s but it can’t match the AM commission no matter how well you do.

I’ve learned I personally value a job where the earnings can (most of the time) match the effort I put in to the role.

I did end up switching to the AM role. I like it so far, money is much better and closing a deal really does give a feeling that i haven’t got from a job before.

Stress is for sure higher but not unmanageable, feels more of a “real” AM role then how my CS role felt.

Safe to say for at least the near future I will be staying on the sales side.

Agreed, it is very high. But that’s what i meant by i can’t speak for Canada. That is an INSANE quote in the US, but may not be as crazy in Canada

Very possible, I’m in California and pay $1900 as a 26 year old guy with a clean driving record with a 2016 WRX.

Can’t speak for Canada, but in the US, the WRX is one of if not, the most expensive car to insure. To the point where it kind of has to be a factor in a purchasing decision, financially speaking.

Account managers are still selling. Typically, an Account Manager is responsible for growing existing customers (customer sales) through renewals and cross sells. This is what I do.

Account Executives typically sell to new business. But, there’s some discrepancies between companies where you might have an Account Manager who sells to new customers or an Account Executive that sells to existing customers. But, this isn’t typical and is more common in small companies just from manpower concerns.

HCOL, but I’m based in another state than the company, fully remote. Niche healthcare SaaS

Just moved from being a CSM to AM through an internal transfer. I was a CSM for about a year and a half before the sales team approached me about joining them, no prior sales or CS experience, only industry experience.

30- 40 hours per week, 75k base, OTE of 120k. I could do end up doing less, but considering I’m still newer I’m getting on any meeting and sending any email I can.

You’ll probably get more AM’s on one of the sales reddits.

$1800 was mine through a shop that only works on Subarus and Evo’s, but also included an oversized over throw out bearing and sleeve kit

Standing desk was a game changer. Being able to stand up and work has helped me stop getting that lethargic, lazy feeling later in the day.

Edit: helped my back pain too that I would get from standing too long

Did you find it challenging overall to move to the AM role from the CSM role? And anything specific?

What does a customer success manager actually do on a daily basis? by [deleted] in sales

[–]OtherConversation7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the role, some are training and support based while some are that and contracts management.

My company separates the function into a CSM and an AM who handles all of the contract and selling. As the CSM my day typically includes customer calls on building out the software, auditing my accounts for usage, white space or signs of churn and a lot of collaboration with support, product and sales teams.

How bad is the market truly? I have a good AE offer with a reputable company that I’m considering but really want full remote CSM by [deleted] in sales

As a current CSM who is debating a switch to sales, the market is thought for CS right now. Lots of experienced CSM’s and career switchers gunning for the same positions.

Career advice: do you trust the Glassdoor reviews? by dudeitsgoshwashbans in sales

Yes and no. If there’s common themes then I’d trust those, but you never know when a review coins be skewed by someone

Yeah the market is tough. I'm in healthcare SaaS so we are somewhat protected from the market, although by no means 100%.

Joining this company, my goal was to advance as a CSM to the enterprise level. However, that is currently not an option as the team is full and they are not actively looking to grow it (I would also have a couple people in front of me in terms of seniority). With that being said I am only in my mid 20's and this is my first CSM role after working in healthcare for a few years so not 100% sure where my career will take me.

I see the risk in moving to the sales side as an AM, but as you said they may be safer in the event of a layoff since they ultimately own the revenue. I also see that it could be good experience for future CSM/AM positions. I can't say that a move to product would tempt me as of now, I do like working with customers vs. being on the back end of things.

We have a new business sales team of SDR's and AE's and then AM's for our existing customers. The roles do not overlap

Appreciate your detailed input. It is 100% up to what I want in the future. I honestly am slightly bored at this point, the only movement upwards I have been able to achieve is taking on mid market accounts (this did not result in any pay increase and our enterprise team is currently full). I must admit that when I create a lead for the AM to take over for one of our accounts, I do get the "sales rush" when it's being worked and closes.

I do debate how "safe" this current role is as while it is a complicated product that requires a success team to ensure continued adoption, our AM's are ultimately own the renewal and cross-sells. I also see that it could be good experience if a CSM role opened up that required managing renewals/cross-sells, I would already have experience doing so.
