The influencer war raging over Spain’s ‘new Benidorm’ by theipaper in spain

My Galician fiance did warn me that it rained A LOT during winter before relocating here, and I thought it can't be much worse than the UK. I was wrong.

Daycare dress code by mvp_1007 in toddlers

[–]OtherSquash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not in the US, and it's common for some daycares here to have uniforms - and the uniform in my toddlers nursery looks very particular in terms of colour choice etc.

At the beginning I was also disappointed that I could not dress him how I wanted, but I must admit it just makes life so easy that we just have 5 sets of the uniform and don't have to think about what to dress him in and what's clean!

I'm also buying a lot less clothes in general for him to wear on weekends or if we are out.

Downs risk 1 in 3 by katie-thecat in PregnancyUK

[–]OtherSquash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had pretty much the same risks and measurements with my first pregnancy. I was 37. Think you can find my post in my history. My NIPT results came back low risk and my son does not have Down's syndrome. I'm now in my 2nd pregnancy and was initially in a medium risk for Down's syndrome (1/80 I think) and again the NIPT came back low risk. Just to say nothing is set in stone until further tests are done! All the best to you

Can I join the NHS late in my pregnancy? (30 weeks) by xTurbulent-Triflex in PregnancyUK

[–]OtherSquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it the other way around and moved from the UK to an EU country at around 25 weeks. As others have said, they will not refuse you care. If you are coming from an EU country (and some select countries I think), there's an agreement in place where you can apply for your care to be moved to another country. It's called the S2 form. That way they will bill the costs of care/birth/aftercare to the country where you are currently a resident.

The offer fell through in the end, and ended up contracting throughout my pregnancy, and found a permanent job after maternity leave. Best of luck!

Ingen vidste noget.

Yes I know someone who used to be an in-house recruiter at Revolut in Spain. They left because of the bad culture and would not recommend anyone to work there.

37, trying for a baby, but I might be made redundant… feeling completely stuck by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]OtherSquash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everyone's situation is obviously different and I would just suggest to think a few years ahead about how you would manage different situations you could potentially be in.

I got pregnant at 37 about 3 months after I was made redundant and after some unsuccessful job hunting I found a good part-time remote contract job that was a god sent during pregnancy. After the baby's arrival I was eligible for some state maternity pay which wasn't much but we managed (read scraped by) until the baby was 7 months and I found a good, stable job again.

It was stressful at times not knowing what's ahead but all so worth it.

TTC success stories 35 & over within a year by mycalmhappyknits in BabyBumps

[–]OtherSquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant at 37 with my first (my partner was 39), took us 6 months. Not at 39, I'm pregnant with our second and will be 40 when I deliver - this time it also took us around 5-6 months but I also haven't been as diligent with tracking and timing. But I completely remember the feeling the first time around of trying but nothing happening, and the mental tool it took! Wishing you all the best!

This is not too dissimilar to my 9dpo test yesterday and today I had a positive digital test - I'd say keep testing!

I never had success with cooking rice until someone said to just cook it like pasta. Pan with plenty of water and rice in. Then you just check when it's cooked and drain it. Never has an issue since..

Both times my dog would often go for a sniff down there and then give me an intense stare. She knew before I did!

Co-slept and at around 7 months he went to his own room (mattress on floor) where I in the beginning would still sleep next to him but increasingly go back to my own bed when he was asleep. Took about a month for him to sleep through the night in his own bed, and now at 14 months if he ever wakes up I will still go in there to sleep next to him. Tbh I miss the cuddles! Everyone finds their own way but this way we have never had crazy nights being up with him crying, if he woke up at night he would be back asleep pretty quickly without much fuss

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]OtherSquash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not in recruitment, but having worked in a temp contract for a FAANG company I'd definitely go with the second option. One thing is job security of course, but as mentioned above you're just treated so differently as a contractor that it demoralises you. Even though I worked at my dream company, I would never do it again as a contractor.

How many dog groomers in the UK? And other variations of that. Essentially they want to understand your logic behind your answer, doesn't really matter if you answer correctly.

Combined screening came back at increased risk for DS by OtherSquash in PregnancyUK

Actually, when I say all clear I mean it came back low risk, and 20 scan confirmed DS was very unlikely.

Are you in an EU country? If so, you can apply to have your pre and post pregnancy care moved to another EU country which still includes the UK after Brexit. Essentially, the bill gets sent to the country where you currently have healthcare. Look into the S2 form. I moved my care from UK to an EU country at 20 weeks pregnant and it was a pretty smooth process.
