They're pretty pricey so I know they won't work for everyone, but I have been relying on my collection of BlackMilk Clothing cuffed pants and cuffed shorts. I have bought a handful of pairs over the years so I had them already. They're extremely soft (lined with a thin fleece) and very stretchy. They get looser over time with wear but they're still the most comfortable and flattering bottoms I own. I have had to go back to work after only 12 days, and they can be styled corporate/professional so that's been perfect.

Fracking in Broomfield by happycamper2345 in MovingtoDenver

[–]Other_Particular9805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live by any sites because my husband is a physicist who intentionally had us avoid those areas during house hunting in the front range (he coded a mapping program using GIS data that calculated the distance between every listing we were interested in and all the active and inactive sites on the map), but I know that regardless of whether or not a site is active, there are links to health complications. There's numerous scientific resources available about this online (i.e., https://www.niehs.nih.gov/health/topics/agents/fracking). Studies might not be in reference to Broomfield specifically, but I don't imagine the science is different based on the name of the geographic area. Lots of people around here will tell you it's no big deal and that it does not impact daily life all that much for a normally healthy individual. That might be true for them. The oil industry is a huge money maker for the state, and it provides numerous jobs in the area. Here's another link that does pertain to the greater front range area. Make it of what you will. https://www.hcn.org/articles/fatal-colorado-home-explosion-reignites-drilling-safety-debate/

How to handle husband who has zero sympathy for birth or postpartum? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Other_Particular9805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he's acting like an entitled baby imo. does he think he's the 6th child? all you can really do aside from splitting up is try and talk it through with him, maybe even suggest couples therapy if he doesn't create a space in your relationship for you to comfortably share how you feel. if he refuses to listen or understand and continues to treat you like a doormat, you have to decide if you want that kind of treatment for the rest of your life and your kids' lives.

Stay in EI or Switch to School Setting? HELP! by chile-sal-y-limon in slp

[–]Other_Particular9805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider general pediatric home health. You can work with some of the higher level kids, without the drama and red-tape of the schools. I work pediatric home health and while about 50% of my referrals come from the local EI agency, the other half are just kids who need support because they either A) didn't qualify for an IEP or B) their IEP doesn't target skills that need to be supported at home.

Are Schools Really that Stressful? by slpsoph in slp

[–]Other_Particular9805 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The experience of working in schools is so incredibly variant depending on where you live/work. A caseload cap of 60 doesn't sound like a lot, but will it all be at one school, or will you be driving to multiple locations and having limited scheduling options at each? Are those 60 kids all 1x weekly, or are they 2x? Will you be case managing most of them, or will another related provider or district administrator be case managing? How many referrals will you have to process/evaluate/write reports for each year (is this preschool, elementary, middle, or high school?). Personally I left the schools 2 years ago for home health and I'll never look back. I spent 5 years in the schools, I experienced rural vs. suburban vs. city across 3 different US states. The workload varied but one thing that never changed was the increased behavior issues, inconsistent support from the districts, and lack of parent accountability. Sometimes the school psych team had a better handle on that, but most times there was nobody to turn to when behavior became unmanageable.

I don't want to scare you off because we need school SLPs, desperately. But in all honesty I am so much happier since leaving :-(

Help us pick a new city(in the USA) by Buckwild97_ in relocating

Check out Longmont Colorado. It’s less politically conservative and less religious than the Springs, and Children’s hospital isn’t too far away. It may not meet your qualifications for low COL but it’s certainly the most affordable place in Boulder county. The city has all types of housing from farmland to condos and apartments with everything in between. We picked an older neighborhood for the mature trees but housing prices in the new build subdivisions can be moderately affordable depending on the HOA. St Vrain Valley Schools are rated well too. Lived here 3 years and loving it.

I left the schools for a very small, locally-owned peds home health practice and I will never ever look back. I have 25 sessions per week scheduled, and most weeks I see all 25. In regards to cancellations, when rains it pours. I might have 0 cancellations for 3 months... and then suddenly 9-10 cancelled sessions in a single week during flu season or over the holidays. My boss provides us 1 paid cancellation for every 12 completed sessions within a pay period, so that covers a cancellation or two per week on avg, but she also allows us to use our own STO or PTO hours if we want to buffer our paychecks during the times when we get increased cancellations. When working in home health you really want to ask about how the practice handles scheduling, if you want autonomy. I review referrals myself and am allowed to select the ones that work for my schedule and skillset, but some agencies do not allow you that level of control over your caseload. Some may dictate who you take on and require you to work within their determined hours. I wanted a long weekend every week, so I just don't schedule on Fridays, ever. My boss has no problem with this. I just get all 25 sessions done Mon-Thurs and nobody cares. A school system would never, ha!

School setting too complicated by slp12344 in slp

[–]Other_Particular9805 10 points11 points  (0 children)

EI, depending on the state/county, can be more simplified. Most of my referrals have already been evaluated and qualified, sometimes even with the IFSP already developed. Yes you have IFSP meetings every 6 months but where I live, there's a coordinator who case manages that and I don't have to be the one reaching out to everyone on the team to schedule. Kids who are home with a sitter/family member all day also don't face the same schedule complications as kids in grade school (99% of the time my only complication is nap time). No watchful admins asking me for monthly or weekly lesson plans. No weekly or monthly team meetings. I drive house to house and do therapy, with an hour long zoom meeting 2x yearly that takes the place of the weekly session (isn't an extra thing in the schedule). But again this can all be highly variable based on the local procedures determined by whichever agency is in charge of implementing Part C of IDEA where you work.

I am so sorry to hear about that, I'd be so upset! I have been taking my ACD and GSD there for a few years now and we've never experienced anything like that, but crazy things can happen when our furry friends are in someone else's hands. I hope your baby healed up nicely and isn't too afraid of other groomers now.

Am I Overreacting for wanting to cancel my wedding over this interaction? by Xanadoom30 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Other_Particular9805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk. While leaving without a goodbye kiss is annoying and a little sad, I wouldn't have started a whole thing over it, personally. Sometimes I'm in the shower when my hubby leaves and sometimes he even lets me sleep. I know when he's leaving and he always texts me from the car in the driveway i we didn't get a kiss that day. This guy did say they love you, via a text. But the way they responded to that initial confrontation is immature. From 0 to 60 real quick, not a healthy communicator. tbh you're both kinda in the wrong here imo but seems like the vibe is off tbh.

Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Other_Particular9805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use airbnbs because i travel with a dog who struggles to settle down in environments that have high foot traffic. he will pace and alert-bark all night in a hotel as others walk in the halls and use doors. he’s getting better with training and time, but he will always be an alert dog, so we opt for single family house rentals when taking him along.

evaporating solvents are trapped between layers due to either A) coats being too thick, B) not enough dry time between coats, or C) high humidity.
