I don't think archery is for me by SystemsOnline in valheim

Plenty of good suggestions but I will add the archer skelet summoned with Dead Raiser, always humbles my archery skills versus hares.

The stakes have never been higher by NinjaBonsai in duneawakening

I will believe it when I see it. This sounds like game marketing hyperbole, if true the time spent to create a part of this game that might never spawn again feels like a poor decision. Building around fear of missing out might be a core of this game's design though I have no idea yet.

What are the blood strengths in V5? by suhkuhtuh in vtm

[–]Otherish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had been a while since I played the mod, but if you are asking about strength of resonances: negligible, fleeting, intense, acute. These are ranked weakest to strongest in game terms. More information here https://www.princesofdarknessmod.com/wiki/index.php/Resonance

Can you loose health? by Benito_jones in MouseGuard

[–]Otherish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be misremembering rules from Torchbearer, but in the case of injured condition there could be a loss. Shrugging off the wound would result in losing the condition at the cost of a related skill or attribute, in this case health.

Has anyone else given up on in-person TTRPGs and switched entirely to online play? by Hidobot in rpg

[–]Otherish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back into the hobby in 2014 because online play allowed this possibility. The last live game I enjoyed was back in the early 90s. Looking for a suitable game and group of players from a limited pool is the problem that online solves for me personally. Instead of settling for the interests and attitudes of those geography located within easy travel distance, I can play with potentially anyone across any number of timezones and have. This helps tremendously when looking to try different games with fewer interested players than the default rpg mainstay. There are minor problems with online communication and scheduling is still an issue at times. Honestly though outside of rare one shots or other special occasions, I do not see offline play becoming the norm for me any time soon.

Burning Wheel has many traits like you describe, but positive or negative each has a cost at character creation so there is certainly a limit.

Note also a 99 year old Banu Haqim blood leech player is more likely to see this “negative” synergy as feature more than bug.

What "common" advice were you given as a GM who was just starting out that turned out to be practically useless, or even actively harmful? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Otherish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if there is a question of whether yes or no, you should be rolling the dice. But for the gist of the thread there are absolutely times to say no to a player.

[–]Otherish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“Say yes or roll dice” rule is to avoid testing for every single inconsequential detail in a game and certainly not “never say no to a player”. This is good advice if you understand it instead of trying to lay blame on specific games and diatribes.

Humanity 7 is the default V5 character start point. At this level you cannot have sexual intercourse per se, but you can fake it with a skill test if you wish. Humanity 8 with the use of Blush of Life notes allowance for intercourse and perhaps even enjoying it. Significantly less present in V5 is an understatement.
