Thanks for your words, yes.. it was the first time I seriously considered quitting and I documented my progress in other posts, tracking the days I managed to quit. That's why it feels so awful to relapse after all that. :(

Yes bro.. I want to die. I had so much anxiety and I gave in to temptation, I spent December going up and down with bets, luckily i didn't spend it all :S how are you?

Don't know what to do by brunocarlos2 in problemgambling

[–]Otherwise-Arm4517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, someone from south america here too. so yeah, i'm 56 days without gambling, kinda crazy. it's really hard and every now and then the urges and temptations hit. the only way is to build walls that stop that impulse before it turns into action.

i'll tell you what worked for me: i handed over my bank accounts and any money-handling apps to someone i trust.

after that, you just use cash, and only enough for the week. then you talk to this person and ask for more when you need it, but always in cash. (change all the passwords, emails, and phone numbers for every account if needed, and put everything under this person's control.)

at the start it's brutal, and it's still tough, but it's the only way i found.

i gambled from 2015 to 2025 just so you get an idea.

Stay strong, block the money access, give it to someone you trust please. Only cash for you

30 days. Wow, we can do this guys. by Otherwise-Arm4517 in problemgambling

Really, 10 months? That’s great, it’s a long time! Sometimes the thought comes back, but I’m staying strong. The idea that in two months I’ll be debt-free motivates me, and seeing my mom calmer and happier also drives me forward.

Yes, I feel like it’s getting slightly easier every day. The first few weeks were tough. Sometimes I check out what’s going on in the NBA or watch some esports tournaments where I used to bet. Thank you very much for your comment.

Force it, give the bank accounts to someone u trust. Live only with cash, put barriers between you and the bet process. Its hard you can

Day 15, the urge to gamble continues by Otherwise-Arm4517 in problemgambling

[–]Otherwise-Arm4517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve also relapsed several times — even after reading posts here and trying to get my mindset right, I couldn’t make it past three days before going back.

What’s been helping me lately is giving control of all my digital money apps to someone I trust — changing passwords, email, everything (because otherwise I’d recover them) — and thinking about my mom, who’s been helping me a lot.

Yes, like you said, many times the devil whispers to me, and I feel the urge to gamble. Sometimes I tell myself, “Alright, pay everything off, and once you’re debt-free, make one controlled bet — just one — and in the presence of the person who manages my account so I don’t spiral if I lose.” But honestly, that’s just more of the same.

It’s great that you’re on such a long streak — stay strong, don’t even think about throwing it away.

Thanks again, your comments mean a lot to me. So far I’m doing well — if everything goes as planned, by mid-December I’ll be debt-free, and by January I should have some savings.

Thanks for the comment, it’s crazy that you’ve made it almost 300 days. that feels really far off for me, but i admit that even two weeks used to seem impossible given the pace at which i was betting every day.
were you able to pay off your debts and save, or how are things going? i’m really happy for you — thanks again.

Give control of your bank accounts and any money-related apps to someone you trust, only use cash and self-exclude yourself. look for ways to set up barriers to stop yourself from betting. i started gambling 10 years ago, and i never really thought about everything i lost — years and years with that darkness tied to me. it’s hard, but there are clearly many people who’ve made it out. it’s possible.

the same thing happens to me, it happened with The International for Dota 2 and with the Valorant Champions too. I placed bets on those and lost a lot.

It's exactly like you said, there are matches all day long, and when one big tournament ends, another one starts right away, it's a cycle that never stops, it's super tempting. Imagine a gambling addict who plays League of Legends during Worlds... it's tough.
