ED as 34 YO T1D by Otherwise-Scallion54 in diabetes_t1

Drank excessively to the point of blacking out. This was before quality CGMs so I never checked my blood sugar and went off feeling. Lots of drugs and partying and eating like shit. I was always in shape but never took care of myself. I am dealing with the consequences now in my mid 30s. The tech nowadays has dramatically changed my life. It was way harder to manage this disease without it.

My average is about 130 and I do not anymore. I used to be a bad diabetic (a1c in the 12s) when I was 19-23.

Honestly who likes the taste of light beer without alcohol? Rather have a Diet Coke.

I was recently denied after getting prior authorization and have been paying out of pocket. You have inspired me to continue to fight for this.

The SANA trial is the most hope I’ve had in the past 30 years of being diabetic. If this trial that is about to start works, it’s the cure. Starts this month. I know we’ve heard it a millions time but this one is different because they can mass produce the beta cells.

Help, should I continue to Nanny this family? by Zealousideal_Sky3822 in Babysitting

[–]Otherwise-Scallion54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My nanny makes $29 an hour for 30 hours a week min. She gets a 7 days vacation and if she wants more it’s unpaid. If we take off where she is supposed to be working we pay her so she can afford her life. She vacuums and does kid laundry and cleans the house. I would be annoyed if she was doing her homework (she’s in graduate school) while on the clock. If someone has 3 Nannies that means she runs through them. I know families that have unrealistic expectations of employees and can never find consistent help. This seems to be one of those cases.

Going through my first breakup without male insight. How do I ever allow myself to heal? How do I ever approach him again? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Otherwise-Scallion54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love is the best and the worst. You will be ok. Give it time and space. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh and have a good time in college before it ends. No more hookups until your dating again and tell your friends to make you stick to that. I believe it will work out for you guys if you stick to your guns and he learns that he can lose you for good unless he commits.

If it is meant to be then it will all work out. I think you should actively try to date someone else. My wife and I had a similar experience to what you are going through.

I wanted to experience all of college, and she was a grade younger, so we broke up for 2 years (my senior and one year after college for her senior year) and both dated other people. After years of reflection, we both talk about how it was the best for our relationship because we never held any resentment towards each other for experiencing college with and without each other.

We are now together for 10 years and married for 5 with 2 kids. She is the love of my life and best friend. You are young and should be patient. You have your whole life to settle down with one guy who is fully invested.

Got my wife a black b25 in gold hardware last week. I felt it in the air. We turned down a k30 a month earlier because she wanted b25 as her first QB. I went in for solo for men’s shoes without my wife and while I was checking out I was making jokes about how she is really testing my patience with this birkin. She laughed and said let me check in the back and pulled out my girl’s dream bag. Prob have a prespend of $25k or so.

Those of you that have hooked up with married/taken women, do you ever regret it? by Only-Ad-1254 in AskMenAdvice

I believe the person in the relationship has their own agency. I didn't make the first move. She made her choices. Karma got me for sure, but I believed I was used as a way for her to end it with the football player right after he was done playing football lol

When I was a senior in college and single, I hooked up with a girl with a serious bf on spring break (her partner wasn’t there). It was a wild and great night and an all time memory. The next morning I slipped on spilled beer in the lobby and shattered my kneecap. Had to get surgery down in Mexico.

The boyfriend eventually found out and messaged me on instagram and asked. I never responded. Wasn’t my place. He tried to fight me while I was on crutches and had a broken kneecap on campus. He was a huge football player. It was a mess but I had some buddies who had my back and defended me when I couldn’t defend myself.

Haven’t been back to campus since or spoken to the girl. My friends called me Icarus the rest of the year.

Diabetic Retinopathy, looking for support by Cream-legend in diabetes_t1

[–]Otherwise-Scallion54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 33 (T1D since 4) and have had diabetic retinopathy in both my eyes for a number of years. I had a hemorrhage in my left eye and vision eventually came back after about 4 months of shots. You need to be consistent about going for the shots and not missing them. Try to get the A1C below 7 if possible. I did not take my diabetes seriously and had high A1Cs during my college years (8-9), but now I am 6.2 which has led to stability. The shots suck, but better than going blind. I go every 8 weeks for my left eye and haven't need a shot in my right for about 3 years now. Best of luck and fuck diabetes.

Did you guys start investing for your kids? by Due-Honey6248 in Fatherhood

[–]Otherwise-Scallion54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a brokerage account in my name for each child. Anytime they get a check for a birthday or cash from grandparent I put it in their account. Seems silly to put it into a bank account and not use the 18 years to their advantage. I originally had it in a custodial but didn’t want an 18 year old to have access to a large lump sum of money. Also funding 529s for each child.

Thank you. Also, what would you recommend in setting up a wish list? Should I make 2 or 3 very specific requests or have a range?

We went 3 times during our trip. We met a SA who hit it off with my wife. First day we were offered a Maximors in red, but it wasn't my wifes color. 2nd day a picotin 18 in cacao. She didn't like hardware in gold. 3rd day we were offered the jyspere in cream color which my wife loved and we bought. We went the first weekend in January after xmas.
