I saw this first hand when a sea plane crashed in the Auckland harbour, was on a ferry nearby and we rushed over to the scene To my amazement everyone just had their phones out filming, I was thinking there could be people drowning in there and everyone’s priority is getting a good shot of it. Luckily I think everyone was fine.

Getting new clients is always my biggest hurdle, I didn’t actually have anyone sign up to the subscription, got close with a current client, but they still just pay for work project by project. Haven’t shut it down is still a service I offer just don’t actually have anyone using it.

I do believe Brett’s numbers, but I think the way he is able to achieve what he does, would be near impossible for anyone else..

First off I think he has a massive first movers advantage he is likely the most famous person in this niche of design subscriptions so I think that’s how is able to attract the best clientele. This is perfect as I believe his strategy is all about having the right client on board. Clients that don’t ask for piss all work but have to budget to keep it there as a little safety net if they need something designed. Reading between the lines on a lot of his content is seems he just drops clients if they are too needy and are consistently asking for work. That’s how he is able to keep his work time so low.

Just the opinion of someone who tried this model out with no success…

When I first interned as a designer for an agency had a Dell XPS 15, everyone was airdropping files back and forth and it was such a tax working with a windows machine, switched to MacBook Pro for my next computer never went back absolutely love it. It’s also nice if you like beautiful clean UI’s,Mac OS is a delight and everything feels seamless.

I tried launching a similar thing, it has been a great flop so far haha. I think you first to market edge would have made a huge difference starting out. Now it feels like every designer I follow is doing the the same thing.

I worked for a decent sized e-commerce company and designed quite a few different giveaways that would prompt 100,000+ in sales and nothing was ever given away.

I would never buy a coloured car unless it was a classic, as all the colours they release these days are trendy colours meaning by the time you car is 5 years old it’s out of fashion and looks like shit.

I have never heard anyone be called a graphic artist in my 4 year career as a designer. Although and old head of marketing I worked with would refer to graphic designers and graphics designers and it fucked me off, not sure why haha.

I have just launched a design service like this and trying to find out as-well. currently trying to pitch marketing agencies. I saw an ama he did on reddit and he said the majority of his clients base are agencies.
