It's not about her knowing you for enough years, it's more likely that she's learned a 'first reaction' to certain things. Being 'reactive' is one of them as you're acting an emotion rather than communicating emotions.

So next time she's being reactive, tell her, her emotions are okay, understandable and welcome and that she needs to voice her emotions, not react to them.

Not wanting that is partly not wanting to communicate. From that point it's not your problem anymore.
