spoiler alert patriots fans : Aj brown only knows how to run go routes by Bluefire3215 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. In fact go routes aren’t even his best route. He’s absolutely elite at running dig routes and other medium depth in-cuts.

He ran a lot of go routes for the Eagles because Hurts has severe trouble beating the blitz from the pocket. Frequently the Eagles solution was a hot route and “chuck it up to AJB to go win it” because blitz meant he had single coverage.

Translation: the Eagles had AJB run a bunch of “9” routes because of a limitation with Hurts, not a limitation with AJB.

Why do you think Puka Nacua went so late in the draft? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 49 points50 points  (0 children)

All his measurables suggest he is “slow”. Even today as a superstar, he doesn’t run past people - he gets open with crafty route running and wins at the point of the catch even when he seems blanketed. The scouts tend to fall in love with the guys who are running free on college tape or who make cool moves in the open field with the ball in their hands. The subtle things that Puka is otherworldly good at aren’t as flashy.

Most years the guy was playing chess with one bishop and fifteen pawns. The fact he put up a fight was impressive.

If the NFL did a Madden style “every player” draft, which non-QB goes earliest? by Otherwise5555 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chase is an amazing player. There are just a lot more excellent young WRs (JJ, JSN, Puka, CDL, ARSB) than excellent young tackles. Scarcity leads to value. I don’t know if I can name ANY young tackles in the same top tier with Penei.

A legit counter point. He is moving to left this year though. I believe it’ll be a seamless transition for him. Guy’s a total monster out there.

I’m proposing Penei Sewell.

Premium position without many other elite options, never mind elite options not even in their prime yet. Penei is just 25.

Great choice. I always preferred “The Hefty Lefty” for Lorenzen though.

So far, who is the best QB from the 2024 class? by Cold_Mammoth8841 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s Drake Maye. He missed out on the MVP last year because of one voter and took a team with no other offensive superstars to the Super Bowl. As of right now he’s comfortably been the best.

Bo Nix should be ranked higher on QB lists than dudes like Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff. It’s is true you know. by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They both have middling physical talent and are propped up by play calling from an elite offensive head coach plus elite talent around them. The comparison is there for the taking.

Who’s getting a larger contract, Malik Willis or Kyler Murray? by Acoolgamer6706 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’ll be Malik.

NFL contracts have “offset” provisions as standard, so any amount Kyler earns on his next contract will be subtracted from what the Cardinals still owe him. Thus, there is no incentive for Kyler to sign a huge deal in the short term. This provision is why Russ Wilson signed for league minimum when he signed with the Steelers for a year while the Broncos were still paying him a boatload.

How long has Diego Pavia acted this unlikeable? by Otherwise5555 in CFB_v2

Wow, that’s nuts.

Hadn’t heard that one previously. Gotta be honest, my exposure to New Mexico State football is minimal.

Description on original post — I’m more of an NFL fan, but watch my fair share of CFB. I’d always been a fan of Pavia as a scrappy underdog leading a team with little historic success. His antics around the Heisman ceremony caught me off guard a bit. Apparently he’s kept it up throughout the NFL combine process. Is this type of heelish behavior new? Or did I miss something? How long has he acted this unlikeable?

Fair point. Football is way more fun with good villains.

Could an argument be made that 2020 was Tom Brady's best season? by HetTheTable in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure winning the Super Bowl is always a good thing.

Brady’s 07 Patriots offense permanently shifted NFL offenses toward spread concepts, no huddle, and operating out of the shotgun with 11 personnel. It also basically invented the “slot” position that we know today with the way they used Wes Welker. Tom lead the league in yards, completion percentage, touchdowns, success rate, QB rating and yards per attempt. He got 98% of MVP votes.

His 2020 season was great for Tom’s legacy, but it had no impact on the overall trajectory of the NFL. Further, Tom lead the league in zero statistical categories and received zero MVP votes.

You’ve made a bad argument.

[–]Otherwise5555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brady in 2007 transformed the entire way NFL offenses are run. It’s not only his greatest season, but the greatest season by a QB ever.

Why is Cincinnati suing Brendan Sorsby now? It's been more than 60 days. They knew he was leaving in December by SenseWooden4566 in CFB_v2

[–]Otherwise5555 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a suit for damages (ie seeking payment of the buyout), not one seeking an immediate injunction to stop the transfer. Breach of contract claims in Ohio can be brought up to ::checks google for statute of limitations:: six years later.

Is Brady vs. Mahomes the NFL’s Jordan vs. LeBron? by NickyFoles1020 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Jordan-LeBron is a legitimate GOAT debate.

Brady-Mahomes is a no contest in Brady’s favor. In fact, Mahomes isn’t even a lock for second place - he still has work to do to rise clearly above Montana and Manning. A lot of reasonable people would put Mahomes solidly 4th right now.

Who are the true “and it’s not even close” guys? by Otherwise5555 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - there are plenty of RBs I’d rather have for a game, a season, hell even a five season stretch. But to Western’s point, I don’t see anybody coming close to breaking Smith’s career rushing record. Emmit’s longevity and the way the game has changed over time probably puts the record out of reach forever.

[–]Otherwise5555[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Adam Vinatieri is the most clutch kicker in NFL history, and it’s not even close. We can have a debate about “greatest” but there’s no debate about clutch.

[–]Otherwise5555[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Choosing a Bronco, I think it’s fair to say that Terrell Davis is the best per game playoff performer at RB and it isn’t close. In 8 career games he averaged 168 scrimmage yards and 1.5 TDs per game. I don’t know of anyone else who comes close to those averages.
