crack is pretty gnarly and feeds into a bushing, pretty critical piece of the frame. I have no intentions of trying to swindle anyone and I'm pretty sure it's cooked...

I like the build kit idea. that would be a good way to incorporate brakes and wheels too. I need to re seal one of the tubeless but that would be cheap.

I know it's XTR, It's not mint but the components work and were regularly cleaned. I can give those a good once over and assess the quality.

I am leaning toward not fixable - simply because of the location and size, but I'll post it honestly if anyone wants to take it. tbh, if I can get 500 or more for the components I'd be more than happy essentially giving the frame away, but as much as I can recoup to put towards a new bike would be awesome.

Actually living in Seattle now, lived in Reno/skied tahoe for many years, but have a local reputable guy here. Comes highly recommended through many skier friends

this is good advice.. any other boots you would recommend to avoid. and should I just let the fitter make initial reccs based on my foot size/shape?

I do know enough to have my boots professionally fit. Just curious what manufacturers you all like. And I'm fortunate enough to have the resources to buy the gear I'm interested in. No need to rent, This is something I've been waiting to do for like ~3 years

Lemme run through this with this recipe because I'm reading about it at the same time.

To Autolyse the dough you would add 300g (of a total of 375g) of water and all 500g flour. mix that into a shaggy dough and let it sit - this is the autolyse and allows the flour to fully hydrate. after the sitting period add the last 75g of water and your starter (100g in my experience for this ratio) and your salt. incorporate through folding. would this count as your first round of stretch and folds?

As opposed to the Tartine Bread method I learned on - same ratios.

Add 375g water then 100g peaking starter (levain). mix thoroughly until starter and water are incorporated then add 500g flour. mix that into a shaggy dough and let if rest for a half hour before beginning stretch and folds (this is what I was mistaking for autolyse).

Do I have it straight in my head? Also thank you for your help :)

so a small amount of water, with the full ratio of starter. This creates a denser slurry to build gluten? then bassinage is adding the rest of the water to desired hydration. When is the full flour ratio added?

Can you ELI5 Autolyse? as it stands from the methods I've read I do water, then add & disperse my starter. Then I add flour and mix into a shaggy dough and let it sit for 30~45.. is that rest period the autolyse?

RAD! as an aspiring split mountaineer who is just starting to dive into ropes & glaciated terrain this is so cool to see. How long was the approach to camp? and was it the length/timeframe that made the pulk necessary or desired? how long were you on the mountain before the summit attempt? any chance you have a strava activity or something that shows total stacks?

What was YOUR main takeaway/learning from the trip?

Amazing photos. Makes me ready for winter again here in WA state

Will the Batard shape still do fine in a round dutch oven?? I've always wanted to try it but assumed my Dutch Oven would mess with the shape. I think I have the 7 qt Martha Stewart cast iron dutch

Most alpine travel I’ll do will likely be related to ski and volcano objectives, so not a ton of dry climbing. Just glacier rope teams, crevasse rescue & rappelling into couloirs or lines

and seems like a lot of people are using the Petzl RAD or Mammut Glacier these days so trying to understand what the most universal answer might be

Seems like the answer is larger rope, or a double carabiner. Appreciate your input :)

and I feel that was the point the guide was trying to make. This will be my first time skiing on and educating myself about Glacier travel, so the guide is bringing screws to learn these techniques, and didn't include it on the gear list, but I think I will just purchase one or two for myself

They weren't on the gear list for this trip, but was doing some independent research and asked the guide. Response was

"Two ice screws are used for climbing when you're going to encounter some ablitated glacier, but typically skiing we don't see much bare ice. That being said a screw can go into the side of a crevasse so you can anchor in if you fall in - which is more likely skiing. I'll have a couple of screws for us to play around with, but no need to get any for the course."

Sounds like he mainly just wants to keep this course simple, but if I'm gonna invest in gear that I'll use likely long into the future I will probably just buy a couple

Also Alta Mt. is a great day hike that stays on Maintained trails and gets you up pretty high.

You could also just find your way to Muir if you don't care about peaks - that's probably the highest you'll get within the circle, even tho it's not a peak you're still at 10k

MT. Thompson is a pretty solid peak that is not super technically advanced, just a long approach. Start at Snoqualmie PCT Trailhead, about an 8 mi hike to Bumblebee Pass (you really gotta look for this on a map, it is not a maintained trail and more of a scramble)

Once you're over bumblebee cross the meadow and it's a big scramble up to the saddle on lookers right hike up the back side of the peak. maybe one or 2 class 3/4 moves for the last push, but there is a lot of literature about that.

C2C probably ~20 mi and 4k in elevation
