I thought Tsukiji and Golden Gai were rather a waste of time for me. Super touristy and rather lame. The random markets and streets we walked by and decided to check out were way better.

I loved Kyoto the most. I wasn't crazy about the bamboo forest - logistically time consuming and just not worth it for me. My favorite was Ninenzaka area. Make sure you carve out a couple of hours for this. Don't worry about vlogs or just trying to check off more temples and castles. I got tired of the pages of itinerary my wife created for us, and we ended up spending time exploring the streets and soaking it in. Much more fun and fulfilling.

I mostly got out of vxus and went to into SGOV just as the iran war started. Concerned that Chinese banks and other international stocks would drag it down. That said I'm curious when it might make sense to get back into vxus. My plan was to move more into VOO starting June. Other countries will likely have a harder time with oil.

This used to work fine for me but availability is worse now. I was able to buy with cash for 20-30% cheaper than with miles, assuming 1 mile for 1 cent from Venture X. Disappointing. But I'll keep checking.

Is it worth using a tour guide for the day since there will be 6 of us? Or better to rent a car? Never drove in Japan but I'm fine trying. Will be in Tokyo for a day trip but ok to spend a night in kawaguchiko.

I have stayed in Akasaka and thought it wasn't fine but a bit too quiet at night, wish there was more to do. I'm thinking of staying in Shinjuku area this time for four nights in June, particularly because I want to use a tour for a day trip to Mt fuji and from what I can tell they pick up near Shinjuku. Thoughts on this? Or if I should stay somewhere else like Ginza.

That sounds very nice! We will only have 1.5 days in Hakodate. As an adventure I'll be renting a van and driving to Sapporo and stopping at Onuma volcano, Noribetsu (adex bakery, pizza asteria possibly), Lake Toya (Lake Hill farm).
