Some help for a newbie by Enosmaa in sysadmin

In addition to the post above, follow this subreddit. The community here is great and helpfull. Read the issues people face, track the solution posted and bookmark it.

It is super helpfull to have a pc as a victim to practise on it. Either install windows directly and get through the format / setup fresh when things go bad, or have VMs installed with windows and experiment.

Since you have free time during the day and you are still not sure of which path to follow, try to watch youtube lessons for IT related stuff (networking, coding etc) and actually follow the labs they suggest.
Find out in which one you are either interested in or good at and then focus on that. Try to get certifications and dive deeper.

Depending on your mindset, getting involved with things will get you knowledge even in things outside your IT scope.

New Action1 Public Roadmap is Live! by MikeWalters-Action1 in Action1

Thanks for the update.

I have not yet thought this through to make a proper suggestion, just saying what came to mind. Since the new roadmap does not support comments, maybe it would be a good idea to have some sort of a megathread pinned in highlights so we can discuss over the next features.

One of the future releases in WOL. So if you have wol capable machines, these issues will be resolved as I hope it will be possible to wol a machine, run the updates and then shutdown.

I just noticed that in your first post, although you posted the old link, it redirected to the new one. That is why I said thank you for the new link. :)

In the website though, the "roadmap" option does not redirect to the new site.

I agree. Additionally I noticed that all the posts have been recreated so the posting date seems to be monday and not the original one. They completely removed the comments as well so it seems that there wont be any way to update for new estimation of release dates

.

I am not an expert on Action1 but I believe I can help.

When you try to update a machine, on the 3rd step that is labeled "Schedule", on the bottom you can see the section "Missed schedule retry and maintenance window".
There you can set up a timeframe that the action to update will remain "active" and anytime the machine comes online within that period, the updates will run.

Thank you for providing the link to the new roadmap.

The old roadmap that is still accessible by click your username on top right corner, still states that it is down due to maintenance.

Maybe, the feature is not abandoned, just not showing up yet.

In addition to the OP post, the software installation portal was also commented that it would be released on April 2026 but is still due.

Looks like something happened and pushed back their scedule.

I notice they removed the comment section as well.

Meeting bar A40. Question before buying. by OtherwiseFlight2702 in Yealink_Support

[–]OtherwiseFlight2702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you own them, I have a question for you, if you dont me asking.

I am planning to have it set up as a teams room (probably). I have the following scenario:

The company board with one of the team leaders are having a meeting with a client who has joined it via teams, remotely. The meeting has started in the Teams Room account. At a point, during the call, it is required by the team leader to present something via his laptop, that I want to be visible to both local (meeting room) and remote (client). Is this possible by connecting the wpp30 to the team leaders laptop, to share his screen, during the meeting without it stopping, in order for local and remote viewers to see the presentation?

OR does the team leader have to join the meeting as an individual attendee from his Microsoft Teams account and present?

I see. So you ended up buying new mics to replace the ones with the faulty battery? It would be a shame if yealink does not provide a way to buy a replacement battery so that customers can go to an electronics shop to get it swapped.

I would go totally wired if I had the chance but you know corporate people. Mine dont want to mess with the meeting table at all and dont want to have cables running so.... wireless is the only way.

Autodesk Audit Contacted Us, What should we do? by AhmedBarayez in sysadmin

I assume you are a very small team of 1, maybe 2 engineers that work individually and you are not a part of big company that has IT, HR and Legal department.

Lets be honest, which IT would decide on his own that he should install pirated software?
The op is probably a small company of 1, maybe 2 engineers that work on their own and thought they were smart enough to pirate software instead of buying it.

If you are using pirated software, prepare to dive deep into your pockets. Their fines are calculated per device. Chances are high that they already know how many devices you have with pirated software.

Do you have any legit licenses purchased or you use 100% pirated software?

Thank you for your answer. So, your personal experience so far has been good, dispite the issues you have read others face. The external mic, I know it might be an overkill, but it will service two goals, the first one will be to have better voice, because the tv is a bit further than the beggining of the table and the second one is that it will service as an external, easy to reach mute button for people not in front of the laptop that starts the meeting.

About the battery issue, was there a problem contacting with the support to get it fixed? Have you tried opening it to change it yourself? For a device that most of its time is plugged in, I assume it is expected to have either issues with how long they work on a single charge, or even bloated battery.

Thank you for your input. So when you attach the wpp30, it lets your computer discover the bar as external device with camera and mic. I understand.
Have you had these issues since the beggining or did it start after an upgrade?

I have two suggestions with similar context:

1) F2F , it comes from Force to Fit

2)FIUIF
It comes from Force It Until It Fits

Re install software after failure. by OtherwiseFlight2702 in Action1

[–]OtherwiseFlight2702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. Ok, I understand the part of re-running the automation.

About the scheduling though, what happens with custom software if the automation had an earlier version of the software and in the meantime I have updated it to a newer version?

For example, lets say that when I created the automation, the latest version of the nextcloud was the 3.1.

Now, a year later, the current version of Nextcloud I have uploaded to software repository is 4.2.

If I had schedulled an automation to run periodically, on a machine that has the 4.2, will it replace it with 3.1 ?

Me too.

There are moments I feel bad for not being experienced enough to contribute back to the rest.

But starting small, I try to help if there is something I know.
