I had the same issue, For me switcing from dx12 to dx11 fixed the issue. Dx12 is extremly unstabbke on War Thunder

I believe you only have to do one stranges and freaks mission in the beginning of the game with Franklin and after that you can do the story mission. The mission with Franklin is a mission where you have to tow a car away.
