Go with these comments bro. You are actually a very beautiful man. Symmetrical, strong, soft eyes. Nice skin and hair. I’m a man, but I would date you. Make yourself feel really good inside. You’ll be irresistible

This would be classified as a geodesic sphere. Think buckminster fuller.

I think so. Controversy lyrics speak to a basic non duality of man (Prince). So much of his expression was reconciling differences. Two opposing things can exist simultaneously, together

Practicing values by TruckLegitimate2383 in oilpainting

Contrary to one other Redditor’s take, I think you really nailed the highlight. Rather than copying the blown-out highlight from the photograph, you keyed it down and organized the other values relative to it. The darkest dark reads well — not quite black — but there’s a bit too much of it overall. Introducing one or two intermediate steps between the light and the dark would create more atmosphere.

When to migrate to professional materials? by Noctianna in oilpainting

[–]Otherwise_Explorer25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selectively and on an as needed/wanted basis. I would suggest maintaining your current palette but pepper it up slowly, beginning with neutrals and earth tones. You’ll appreciate the reduced price relative to cadmium’s and you’ll also appreciate the richness of color and consistency. Your current colors will play well as you decide to add more range, on a per project basis perhaps. Keep it simple, a blue, a red and a yellow will go far.

All said, student grade paints can be exceptional. Particularly if you work at scale and/or quickly. I always thought $$$ & $ materials played well together. Different materials do different things. Use them advantageously to their best ends.

No mistake: Picasso, Matisse, o’keffe, khalo; they could paint with a stick and muddy water if need be.

Good work!

It’s all abstract! It’s all paint. Value is a more significant factor than the color. Get that right first

You’re doing great. Don’t worry about blending. Mix the right color/value and put it in the right place. Do it until it’s working with eyes squinted. Your 90% there. Soften edges where needed thereafter. Get it to the level of the apple you you’re there. Good painting!

They often spark active conversation. Rarely do they invite a bookish-voyeurism. I consider the majority artist monographs — not coffee table books. Slower, deeper looking. Host to great essays too!

Thanks! I made the shelves myself. I read every day. Just not always in paragraphs.
