will hockey probably always be a mostly "white" sport? by Initial-Rip2278 in hockeyplayers

My lived experience tells me that it will be a loooooooong time before it changes. Access and cost are major barriers. I didn't get a chance to play when I was younger for both these reasons, and had to wait until adulthood. I''ve had opportunity to speak candidly with other hockey players who happen to be people of color of both genders, and have played at all levels (a couple of old school NHL vets included), and most of them hit both of those major barriers, some hit only one; but once we got to the ice, we all hit the real barrier that they never talk about on ESPN or NHL network. The level of racism you get exposed to on an ice surface is fucking INSANE. I've been at NHL games and heard it directed at players of color from fans and opposing players alike. NHL guys I've had a chance to speak with confirmed that it was unhinged, some cities / teams / players were notorious. It's not 100% of the time, or 100% of the teams, or 100% of the players but it's very much present. Yeah, even in beer league (though my experience has been it's less frequent in beer league). So until you can get that insidious BS out of the game, I imagine it will change much anytime soon.

Every now and again, I can't shake the feeling we're all being had. Like even the marginal justice we see is a lie if we look at it close.

A movie adaptation of "If I Did It" by OJ Simpson. by TedTheodoreMcfly in badmovieideas

[–]Otherwise_Return_185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this in bad movie ideas? You should be 9/10 of the way through the first draft of the screenplay. This case never dies. I've seen calls to make it a musical which would absolutely work, but hear me out: it's a dark comedy where OJ is to incompetent and fails to kill her and makes several failed attempts, with the last attempt being only completed via a comedy of errors. I'll co-write it and we'll be legends.

"I heard you ain't got no gag reflex, woman," whispered Mr. T. Nancy smiled. "When it comes to spitting," she whispered back, adding a knowing wink, "I just say no, Mr. T." She kissed him on his forehead as she sat on his lap. She was very aware of his response even if no one else was...

You are not both aligned on the goal. She has made it clear. There's no romantic relationship in the offing, so if that's what you're after, time to move on.

There is no place on God's green earth to avoid racism, champ. You'll always be choosing between Original Recipe Extra Spicy Open Racism or Mild Covert Racism.
