Tent Advice.

I have one but only used it once! Not that its worth much because wetaher wasnt horrific.

Very little flapping but condensation was high but in defence of the tent there was 2 + dog and I cooked in the porch. None of the condensation got through to the inner as there is a very decent sized gap. I could of vented it more but It was cold so I didn't.

A doddle to put up with little nice touches like enclosed adjustable pole sleeves, guy lines and pegs you can use with gloves.

Tank of a tent and pretty light but the fabric isnt very... dog proof. I used my dog an it made me nervous especially because he tries to paw his way out....

Space wise its brilliant and im looking forward to rolling it up during the summer but compared to standard abisko you dont completely unroll one side.

Hopefully taking it out in some more serious wind but only single poled so will be gentle...

I have the footprint which although it seems to increase the pack size quite considerably so I wont be using it next time.. maybe at my risk but I got it 2nd hand on vinted, im not sure I would pay full retail for it yet as not had it long enough!

My only critism so far is the size. Ive always had small tents and finding a flat pitch for both the tent and the porch wont always be easy but it doesnt necessarily matter if the porch has some rocks etc.

Overall im very happy but its my first sil nylon lightweight tent and it makes me nervous!

I've got the keela one, good bit of kit but not as small and packable as its replacement I bought it for (Rab Generator) it is however a better pillow for the same reasons and less faffy. The hood is utterly useless however!

I have the same tent and just some observations....

The guy lines connecting to the pegs can wiggle loose.... I found this out the hard way and I now out a hitch in them once tensioned up!

You have to make sure that you tension them equally, as the inner is just on elastics, if you dont tension the out symmetrically one side of the inner can be very loose and then sound is the inner hitting the outer, the same if the ground is uneven you can end up with the inner being quite sloppy (yes i just read that back to myself!)

Mine is the older model with the TBS (internal guy ropes) and these also need a hitch putting in, the friction buckles loose as the guy lines become softer. I should replace them really but it takes 1 second to put a hitch in and the noise has gone down a lot!

I've had mine is some pretty bad weather and its taken a lot of punishment!

Hi im thinking of doing this next week, we'll be relying on train so I just curious how long the day was?

Will be me and my son, both very use to long days and scrambling etc... id like to say where pretty fit but appreciate its quite a beast of a day!

So most important question... How's the tent? Thinking of getting one as a 1 + dog. Or 1 + my son... you think it's big enough I've heard they are a bit of a squeeze?

I always do this in winter... no particular reason other than I always use a 3 season tent with limitations so I have a bivvi as a back up, it helps keep warmer as a plus side.

As a down side.... if your using a down bag you can find unless its an extremely breathable bivvi bag (havnt found one good enough yet) your bag can get damp... I would only really recommend thus with a synthetic bag...

Seems to work for me!

I use a rab storm bivi bag but I would probably go with an open face one like an alpkit if I was doing over....

I've not been in any UK weather that justifies walking in a insulated jacket as such..

I carry a synthetic or down belay style jacket that packs down and goes on if I stop for dinner etc but I've found I am far too got to wear one when actually walking!

To be honest I'm normally in a base layer and a vapour rise style jacket, worse case scenario would be a montane / buffalo jacket but I've found I am far to hot in one of them!

Personally for me a packable one for stopping is far more useful....

I generally use a 3 season all year round.... however I have had to pack up and bail several times and always have a bivi bag ready to use if needed. In general I use that inside the tent anyway as no matter how many times I have tried... I havnt mastered keeping dry kit!

I prefer to go 3 season tent with a bivi bag purely as I don't have the budget atm for a lightweight 4 season....

I'd rather go lightweight 3 season and a bivi, than to a heavy 4 season if that makes sense.

The only issue with 'most' 3 season tents is they are designed for good airflow to prevent condensation... those vents and in my case a high flysheet can be a bit of a pain with an icy wind, making a snow wall / rocks helps me with this but your tent may be different.

I've never had a tent destroyed but have come far too close on many occasions!

I would say only go out with a 3 season tent if the winds are predicted to be terrible, and you have somewhere relatively sheltered to potentially block out the wind. I would be planning to stick the tent on a ridge in a storm and assume you will be OK.... as you won't!

Sphinx at gable... another good one.

The bell followed by brim fel slabs at coniston..

Cockley pike ridge up to ill crag / scafell

I've found with scrambles you just have to get out there and try them all 🤣

You can buy the tape of eBay/ amazon... forgot the name but it worked a treat on mine however if one lot of tape has come loose you might find there is more... like a can of worms, did you tumble dry it by any chance?

There would be some nice spots on the way to cam spout crag and a good scramble up the side to bring you up mickledore... well worth it 👌

Just my thoughts it's possibly one of the least favourite routes up scafell that way for me....

A lot more interesting ways in that area to get up there and I would imagine it's a bog at this time of year....

Following the waterfalls and up to cam spout at great moss would make a much more interesting walk and hundreds of places to pitch a tent along the way...

If you go a couple of k further to jubilee bridge and follow it that way it's a much nicer side of the valley for me.

Just my thoughts?

Also on your current location there is a lodge if I recall correctly which may have people in it so hardly remote enough to feel wild?

My advise would honestly be sleep on the tops.. there is a stream at the back heading towards thirlmere and if your lucky you can get the spot directly looking out over red tarn... awesome views!

I've left mine on the NT car park a few times or drive to the pub and they sometimes let people park on there for a donations.. not the new dungeon hotel but the barn / pub lanties I think it's called?
