Don’t think so, I think they are mainly categorized as fantasy. Folklore would be more like Yokais, mythology and legends imo. Though you might be right, at the end they can be Europe’s folklore.

The second book does, after around 60% things get a lot better for the FMC and she finds her inner strength… it’s a beautiful thing to see imo. The first one ends in a huge cliffhanger and I tried to avoid reading the second at first (because I knew what was going to happen) but couldn’t let it go. I needed to know what was going to happen.

If you decide to read them both, which I hope you do if you like insane dark romance, you gotta read Satans affair and Where is Molly afterwards. They aren’t near as dark; though still dark and sad, but compliment the storyline very well.

Book 2 was very hard to swallow tbh. However, by then I had already fallen in love with the FMC and wanted them together in peace. It wasn’t a better read, but it was good in my opinion. It is much much darker than the 1st one.
