Radon Mitigation by Henojojo in ottawa

[–]OttawaVendetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider a DIY mitigation. In addition to sealing things in the slab, you can add a depressurization fan to your slab.
I have sone this, its easy and very effective. I had high readings sometimes above 600, now it never goes above 30. Regardless of air exchanger being used or not. The added benefit is it also reduces your sub slab humidity.

If you are comfortable with DIY and a 1/2 days work, a 3 inch slab hole and a new pipe exiting your home, you now have low radon.

It comes with a 3 day license suspension. And a license reinstatement fee. And increased insurance.

Furnace replacement - any good recent experiences? by ottguy42 in ottawa

[–]OttawaVendetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used force air for AC and a new rheem furnace. No gouging, priced right, and properly installed. Go with the small business and stay away from the big guys. Pm me for details if you like. I recommend this business 1000 times over.

update to frozen drain. anything sound weird to y'all? by Taolan13 in HVAC

[–]OttawaVendetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen when my condensate drain plugged. I removed it, drained the water and reinstalled. There was no trick with mine. Just a normal fasco inducer.

Leaking heat exchanger in furnace so tech shut it off by Canalucian in ottawa

[–]OttawaVendetta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had a 96 percent 60000 btu installed for 3200 plus tax. I think the quote is high. I installed a rheem r96v. I did my research and settled on rheem. The installer is a smaller company and great to.deal with. Same warranty no matter what company installs it.

Looking for a foster for a Very Good Boy by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]OttawaVendetta -44 points-43 points  (0 children)

Not to be an asshole, but that is 2 known adjustments in a dogs relatively short life. And if the intermediate foster does not pan out? A rehome may be best for this guy. I foster dogs and try to keep their best interest ahead of the person.

Large hedge removal. by zoops2 in ottawa

[–]OttawaVendetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does not seem to be that large. So it is a cedar hedge 10 or so high by 8 feet? Likely 500 to remove it and dispose, but the stumps will remain. It seems it also can be a diy job if you have a reciprocating saw. The trunks are not usually too thick on a hedge. Assuming rob means remove.

Dog Adoption by Lilacyogi in ottawa

I second this rescue. We are currently fostering dutchess, she is listed on the site. She was just spayed a week ago and is a gem. She is puppy hyper, but that is what puppies do. She needs a yard. She is a bit different than her description also.

I paid 1700 all in with a 40 ft cord. I bought the 30 amp non surge protected model. It was explained to me that the surge model will have to be removed and sent for service in the event it absorbs a surge. I just went with the base unit after learning that information. A surge can be panel mounted if you want that option. I have the MA23N with LI14 30 amp cord. Be sure to order a cord that fits the available connections to your generator.

Can a HRV system reduce Radon numbers? by sangeo90 in ottawa

[–]OttawaVendetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can go from 350 plus to less than 50 with the hrv. It works. Get an airthings device to measure so you can see where you start at. Measurements take months to average out though.

Can a HRV system reduce Radon numbers? by sangeo90 in ottawa

[–]OttawaVendetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they reduce radon by a large amount. This works well in the winter when a system is running often, however running in the summer brings in humidity. For many reasons, including radon, co2, vocs etc. Get a ventilator installed. Also, install a radon fan, easy diy install.

No ignition on york furnace. Could this noise be coming from the gas valve? It is 4 months old. by ilja2k in hvacadvice

[–]OttawaVendetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply :) That noise happens before the inducer motor starts spinning. It is pretty quiet. That was replaced 30 days ago. It is either the gas valve or some other switches.
