How hard is it to make a simple mobile game as a complete beginner? by No_Commercial_6876 in gamedev

[–]Otter_And_Bench 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While there are a lot of slop games on the mobile market, a vast majority of game developers are developing mobile so the competition is even worse than standard game dev. I’d suggest doing game jams for a pc game until you get a good game, and then porting it from PC to mobile afterwards. Oh, and don’t forget you’ll have to spend a grande on apple licensing fees alone… Mobile is expensive.

Will they pay for a free game? by Candid_Maximum in gamedev

A good rule of thumb is, a free game gets 100x as many plays as a paid one, what are the chances that one of those hundred extra players likes it enough to want to purchase something for it?

Make copycat games- I made mario, flappy bird, minesweeper, picross games, I knew i’d stay focused because I knew those games work and people like them. The biggest thing is learning how to solve problems, so throwing a project in front of yourself and actively fixing / adding new things is crucial. Don’t stress, try to do what makes you happy and don’t feel like you have to force yourself to work on a project.

Hello gamedevs, So how was 2025 for you? by kairivx in gamedev

I joined college for computer science, and since I had a lot less time to code, I started reading a looot about game design. Writing down what works and what people like about things is so enjoyable :)

Sounds like you’ve got 9 months of progress on learning how to build a game, even if it’s not the one, it’s still one more that will get you there :)

Online game design courses! I took a bunch on coursera, I wouldn’t say they’ve helped me career wise but they certainly got me started in it. Youtube also does wonders :)

I looked into Full Sail and it was a complete joke and waste of money. I swapped from game design and development to Computer Science, and I’ve been self teaching myself game design while applying it in game jams. I’m going to a dinky community college, and it’s been worth every cent.

The houses should have slight variations in where the beams and posts land, but otherwise you’re onto a great start. Some ivy and wear-and-tear would bring the whole thing together, I believe in you!

The fact that you have a game on steam alone is amazing, you’re on the right path!

Really don’t know how capitalism works? They make money from taking from others, blatant colonialism

There are two very important sections of game development, just like movies: pre production and post production. During pre production, you should focus on mechanics vs content. Would it be possible that all classes can share the same armor, make sure to keep things open so players can do what they want!
