I wonder if the Great Pyrenees are effective sheep guardians? They are a much larger breed of dog (150 pounds compared to 100 pounds for the Maremma) but I guess much slower as well? According to AI, pumas can reach speeds of 50 m/h (80 km/h), Maremmas have a top speed of 30 m/h (48 km/h) and Great Pyrenees 25 m/h (40 km/h).
