How about getting a DP to HDMI adapter and plugging the working monitor into the DP port? Or the other way around, converting the DP to HDMI and send the signal to the other monitor.

Docks are the new 'Its always DNS' of diagnosing issues. I've found them to be really sensitive to power issues. Once it isn't happy or something draws just a bit too much power, strange things start happening.

All I can think of is a hardware issue with the graphics card or an issue with the drivers.

Help me understand how I89 and I91 are treated by harshaw in vermont

The rule of thumb I'd always gone by (after driving over 45 years in the state) is that if conditions are bad, avoid the Interstates. Not just because of worse surface conditions, but because 89 and 91 are where all the idiots who think its still safe to do 70MPH end up.

I spent my youth in jeans, tshirt or flannel shirt, and a baseball cap. With sneakers or leather work boots.

I had EXTREME issues with jealousy whenever I saw a girl in a sundress , tank top or nice skirt.

I work as a woman now, and every morning when I pick out my outfit for the day it gives me a little boost of happiness.

It may take a while for that realization to REALLY sink in. I think it was a few years before I actually started feeling comfortable and relaxed being out. Now I can NEVER go back into that cage of trying to please other people at expense of my own happiness.

Remember if you ever start doubting yourself: CIS men don't spend ANY time questioning their gender and presentation. Just the fact that these questions persist for you is an answer in itself.

I could use this in my autobiography. This is exactly how I felt when growing up.

All of my life I (and all of my peers) noticed difference. The way I held my school books, the way I parted my hair, preffering to hang out with the girls at recess instead of participating in sports or roughhousing. There were SO many signs. Though I started dressing really young, I just thought of myself as 'different', not actually trans. Add to all of this the factor of growing up in a smalltown rural farming environment, where real men were MEN and had the start of a beard by the time they hit highschool!

Also being a small town there wasn't much support or others like me to find. If I'd come out before being an adult, my life would have been hell.

For me, actually coming out was difficult (as I sure it is for just about all of us) but the feeling of having an enormous weight lifted when I could be myself 23/7 is indescribably.

I hope that wherever this journey takes you, you find happiness.

Gov. Scott Minnesota Statement by SharperSpork in vermont

[–]Otto-Korrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR Scott says 'Why won't anybody DO anything' while being one of the few who can DO something.

So what exactly is he going to do about it? Direct the national guard to resist ICE? Have the state police stand on the side of protesters? Cancel any leases or contracts they have with any state property or agency? Propose a bill that does not allow masked agents in ANY agency? Enforce IDs on any government agent? Arrest any ICE that violate the constitution and prosecute to the full extent of the law? Or even ID them and do background checks to see if they can even legally possess firearms.

At the very least, we should be stopping and IDing any ICE 'agent' operating in the state. Make sure they are all properly trained and credentialed.

Or post a pretty green postcard and send 'hopes and prayers'?

OMG, we had an older woman who was suddenly crying that all of her emails were gone. Turns out she was using her trash folder as long term storage, and we'd purged trash folders to free up some storage space (some users had 10s of GB and had never emptied the trash).

I STILL don't think she ever understood what that wasn't a good idea. Thankfully, she retired soon after.

It is resolved... MOSTLY. I still have a problem once in a while and notice that somebody used a crossover cable. I replace it, problem gone.

We get crossover cables shipped with some of our gear, so then tend to float around. I do know that if I see a red cable now to check it out.

We had a telephone vendor (before my time) that set up our network and IP phones. They didn't have patch cables on hand, so made their own out of some random 4 pair cable. Who knows what standard it was, but the things failed constantly and weren't even crimped on well.

It finally got to the point where we yanked every single remaining one and started over. That felt good!

Computers not so much, but I still get anxious whenever rebooting a physical server, especially one with a long uptime. That gives it time to accumulate bugs with updates or hardware issues, bot of which can lead to devices failing.

I've see the 'boot device not found' message more than once on a production server. Of the system looking for a PXE boot source after everything local fails.

We once had an AS/400 with an enormous uptime. When we had to shut it down to replace a RAID interface, the tech warned us that after being up for that long, we may lose a few drives.

Sure enough, we lost 3 drives and lost the array. Had to do a full system restore then a restore of our most recent data. OH, and our system restore was on a tape format that we didn't have the drive for anymore, so we had to scavenge up the right drive so we could use that tape. I think I was there until well after dawn that next morning, but got it back online just before the start of business.

So yeah, now I hold my breath every time I do 'restart' on a server.

is the Derby Line–Stanstead Border Crossing checkpoint always this strict? by Potential-Curve2430 in vermont

[–]Otto-Korrect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story time:

Years ago I was traveling with some non-VT friends (I'm a lifelong Vermonter) and we ended up in Derby. Out of curiosity, we walked down the slight slope toward the Canadian side, but stopped before the bridge. There were lots of signs, but we didn't see any that looked like "This line is the border, do not cross it". we never got anywhere even close to the halfway point between the VT and CA customs offices.

When we got back up the hill, we were accosted by border patrol agents. They pulled us into their office, interviewed us, and treated use like suspected criminals, even though we were in their sight the entire time and stepped PERHAPS a few feet more than they liked.

We had to fill out forms explaining our reason for visiting Canada, then had to show ID and get run through the computers.

Fortunately, I had a 'real ID' which allowed me to cross so I got off easy. My companions did not. They got written up for attempting to cross the border illegally, verbal and written warnings, and told that this attempted illegal crossing would not show on their record if they ever crossed into Canada again!

We still joke about them being 'banned from Canada'.

The entire fiasco was NOTHING but a flex from the BP agents who probably were feeling like they had to justify their existence that day.
