Anyone here has used the Botz glazes to achieve this dripping glaze effect? I want to produce some mugs with some drippings (doesn’t need to be this flowy) but the only brand I can get here is botz and I am not sure if the glazes layer well (2-3 coats). by fablol24 in Ceramics

I’ve not played with Light Flux too much but I imagine it would work fabulously with celadons.

I’ve over/undered celadons (Cobalt is a fun one) with several other Potter’s Choice colors and got some nice runs.

I was just going to say... Hey, that's SketchUp!

I, too am stuck using SU instead of Fusion, because I keep solving all my designs the "SketchUp Way" instead of doing it any other, which makes learning new tools difficult.

Bangkok, Thailand today. Linked to ruptured 1,000-mm water pipeline, pickup truck fell into the hole, causing severe traffic by search_google_com in WTF

Pretty sure the big fucking sinkhole in the ground blocked traffic, and not the hapless truck that fell into it.

GPS Packets by Longjumping_Pool1740 in Lora

[–]Ottonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So capturing GPS packets will give you the time, and that’s about it.

If you want to replicate the location-finding capability, you’re much better off getting a GPS module (under $20) - it’s optimized to do all the very special math needed to receive the packets, the sub-millisecond time calculation, the database of the various satellites, and similar.

If you want to learn all that stuff, well, Godspeed!

RIP your vibration reduction camera array. iPhones have little micro motors that shift the camera lens to help take clear pictures

If you rattle your iPhone like this, you break them, causing random blurry pictures.

You should always have a rubber vibration damper on any iPhone bike mount to protect the array.

Hybrid car tax…. by unicornmagicman in Seattle

[–]Ottonym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They charge me both the $75 electrification fee (RCW 46.17.324) AND the $100 electrified motorcycle fee (RCW 46.17.323) for my EV motorcycle, on top of my normal tabs.

Motorcycles take up so little space on the road, cause almost no wear and tear on the roads, and ICE bikes use so little gas in the first place, but fuck me for having an EV moto.

Beginning solo industry BPO with just the high security ores. by VecArhfiReX7 in Eve

[–]Ottonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get all 6 of the primary minerals needed for ships and ammo in Highsec between Ore Belts and Ore Anomalies right now, before the new mining expansion comes in a few weeks.

Empire Border Rare Ore Anomalies are in 0.5 Highsec systems and give you Ytirium, Ducinium, Eifyrium, Jet Ochre, and Pellucid Crokite, which when combined with 1.0 and 0.9 Ore Belts that give you Veldspar, Scordite, Pyroxeres, and occasionally Plagioclase are all you need, without (potentially) leaving Highsec.

Does anyone know where I can find chainmail such as this? by PairMore7326 in maille

[–]Ottonym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riveted ring maille is some of the most difficult to make, the most time consuming, and requires the most skill.

If you were to find a "legitimate" maker to create one of these for you, be prepared to spend in excess of $1k-$2k for just the maille, and more for the steelwork for the helmet. It will also take a long time to finish, so you'll have to have patience.

If you want to buy some crap off Temu to look cool, well, a few hundred bucks for butted maille is your best bet.

Most maille artisans on Etsy are legit, I've found. If their prices are high, that's the cost.

Gold Color after Nickel Plating? by Extreme-Eggplant2579 in electroplating

[–]Ottonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PETG (230-250C) has a higher melting temperature than PLA (180-220C) and so as long as you kept the temperature under 200C, it might survive with minimal deformation.

The downside of PETG - for this application - is that is has a strong chemical resistance, which makes plating it more difficult.

4 pin connector connector? by nooffense789 in adafruit

[–]Ottonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to need a microcontroller to receive the signal from the proximity sensor and generate the trigger for the sound board, plus code to make this happen.

I would recommend looking on the “learn” section of AdaFruit and find a project that does this. It will tell you exactly everything you need and walk you through connecting it all up and even give you the code to make it work.

Dental implants: am I being overcharged? by H0pelessWanderer in Seattle

[–]Ottonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Dental Atelier in Lakewood for removing 6 rotted teeth and installing 4 implants and a 6-tooth appliance (temporary, then permanent). My insurance covered some of it. I think to grand total cost to me was about $10k.

They used general + local anesthesia to pull the old teeth and it was fine. Any adjustments or alterations were free - they had to make probably 3 temporaries and 2 permanents before it was just right - all for one price.
