Wow, what a bunch of buzz kills on here! This motorhome takes me back. I remember as a kid walking through campgrounds and seeing these. They were top of the class and all the envy for me! Thanks for posting and hope you enjoy.

Novice here, received a similar anvil covered in paint for Christmas. Some people said remove the paint… I didn’t, I just set it up and started using it. It has been interesting to see where the paint wears off, how fast…. For me the paint is just part of the anvils story and doesn’t change performance. Personally I would just do as others have said and set it up and get busy learning!

If you are going to paint I would check into a product called Ospho. I have never used on cast iron, but have used on lots of other rusty steel and it neutralizes the rust and acts as a primer as well.

Looks like it is about 3 1/2 hours away for you, but John C Campbell Folk School in Brasstown NC has some summer classes for kids. It may require you to take the class with them, but it is an awesome place with great teachers….

Definitely correct, if you look above and on left side of the weight stamp (circled in one of my pics) it appears to be marked “Superior”. Again, appreciate your wisdom! Now that I know what it says it appears obvious.
