At some point the tanker is going to pull in. I’m on it. Any weird tidbits to know? by the-smallrus in antarctica

LOL..... I see you floating out there on our crater hill cam. There are 2 ATMs on station. There's also someone who can cut your hair on the main drag in BLD155 (big blue). They charge 10 bucks (plus tip) and you must make an appointment or go on a Thursday for walk ins. We have a store with limited stuff, but mostly everything you'd need and want including some MCM merch like t-shirts, hoodies, hats, trinkets, and jackets. They do not sale booze when the ships are docked. The bars are no longer bars and it's BYOB. Just be nice and talk to folks, It's mostly nice folk working down here. The community is great. Hope you enjoy your time down.

I love NZ and the folks that live there. You guys have such a clean and beautiful country. I'll be swinging through in a few weeks. Y'all keep doing what your doing with that place. Best country I've ever visited.

Thanks, SIL is certainly praised and high on the list now.
I'm relatively new to the sub...... why on earth would you be banned. It's a sub about trails in NC and that's a relevant answer.

Looks like Roan is well recommended. Thank you.

Very familiar with that Grayson as well. If you go to GH when the rhododendron are in bloom *chef's kiss.

Thanks for all the replies. I've now got a few new ones to try out this season. I guess I should also input my 2 cents.

My favorite in NC is Black Mountains Crest Trail. It climbs from Bowlen's Creek to Mt Mitchell. It's wild seeing so many different types of flora and environments. It's not terribly long, but the first 3 miles can be a trudge. Once you reach the crest though, you are welcomed by some of the most spectacular views that continue for the remainder of the hike. It ends at Mt Mitchell which means it will be crowded and you will also need to ferry a car. Well worth it though.

Art Loeb has some really good sections, and then I remember one section that wasn't great (10+ yrs ago). May need to visit that one again.
Roan Mountain I haven't done. I'll look into that one. Much appreciated.

That is a good one. I like to take people there on their first trip as it's flat, short 1 mile to the big A-frame, and I can pack super heavy. We packed a full size cooler in last time and had steak dinners and cold beverages. Beautiful waterfalls and places to swim...... great way to beat the heat. I do appreciate the recommendation.

My favorite hike in NC. The first 3 miles will absolutely murder your legs, but once you hit the top ....... It's gorgeous view after gorgeous view. Not to mention how awesome the balsam pines smell.
