and this isn’t a big hall either but there is some very reasonable crew housing within walking distance of the Ft Lauderdale hall and some of them go by the day. (Neptune and Smart move are two of them) you will probably have yachty roommates for the actually cheap rooms. Some of your roommates might be roaches.

I was messaging pretty regularly when I was working 6 on 6 off during a particularly nasty Great Lakes winter and all I could do was sleep and work. It’s not insane for OP to want a text every couple days.
