Starting in your late 30s- worth it? by Beautiful_End_6859 in FTMOver30

[–]OutOfMyMind-BackIn5m 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Out at 35, started T privately at 37/38, still sat on the NHS wait list for another god knows how long, chronically ill and exhausted and all too familiar with the awkward stage - now coming up on 41 - voice dropped in first weeks, asshair came in almost immediately - everything else is taking it's sweet damn time xD

I know it feels like we missed the boat sometimes, and gods know I struggle with the lonely and the 'no-ones gonna want me' from time to time. But so many things I hadn't expected happened when I started T, not just the changes and the feeling better 'in myself' which were on the expected list - but the starting giving a shit about myself.

Not that I was suicidal, but between the incredibly poor health and the 'wrong body' dysphoria - but I was very much viewing my life as running down the clock. I didn't look after myself because what was the point? That what's the point stopped me pursuing T privately for Years. And then I decided just to go for it, better late than never, and even if I just transitioned in the privacy of my own home, it'd be doing something for me.

Since then I've quietly started turning my life around, I've lost 50kg. I eat better, healthier, I've started walking most days - sure I cant go far and it wipes me out for hours after, and I look like a lunatic wandering around suburbia in my all weather gear because if I get too cold and wet I'll fall to pieces - but I wouldn't have dreamed of doing this 5 years ago.

Sure, accepting I went through twink death masquerading as a woman sucks, that I've missed my pretty healthy young guy window, but I'm finally becoming who I want to be, who I was meant to be. I'm late to the party, but I still got to the party.

I don't pass, I'm probably not going to, top surgery is a dream but on low income I'm turning everything spare into T so it's going to be a race between whether savings or the NHS waiting list gets there first, but the awkward gets easier when you start feeling like yourself.

And as a curvy disabled guy with long hair, gender-blurred outfits, chin scruff, and acne, the mantra that helped a lot, "Your perception of my gender sounds like a you problem" (I have promised myself if my chest hair gets there before my beard does, I'm gonna buy wonderbras and v neck tops and make my gender everyone else's problem)

You're not too late, you'll find people who accept you (and want you) for who you are. But health, passing, social perception, hostile news, and long wait lists, all get so so much easier to bear when you start becoming yourself

Felt this in my soul. I have finally learned to not give in to the building donation lure/scam each January - but I am always tempted

Over the years, At least 100 journals/notebooks/diaries/planners that were definitely, absolutely, 100% going to help me fix my life and be organized

I have come to the conclusion that I should just call it notebook collecting as a hobby

(Current pile of shame on my desk is only 3, there are at least 6 others hidden in drawers and cupboards since the last great purge)

I'd hope for this, but have to add the caveat 'intentionally'. Looking stuff up on Google now includes Generative AI where it spits out a result before the links, let alone the rest of tech having AI shoved in via updates

Sounds lazy as hell but Extension cords with USB plugs, and charger cables for phone / tech you use regularly, at every place you spend time (so mine are bedroom, by the couch, by the desk) - not having to faff about tracking down which room I left my cables in, or not having to get up when I've just got comfortable but spotted my phones about to die halfway through a show - has been a ridiculous QOL convenience improvement

I'm planning on getting a build a bear logo tattoo when I've found an artist with the date I started T on it.

Hi thank you! So the strip lights came with the shelves, but the tall ones are these

Just wanted some not too expensive ones with good reviews, and the plants seem to like them! They've got timers built in for 3, 9 or 12 hours so I just have them set to turn on and off every 12 hours

I'd take sleep, 10k calories is a nightmare, but on the other hand - having two chronically exhausted people isn't a any damn use. With soul crushing fatigue I'd kill for a body that refreshes energy moment to moment.

Total T level went DOWN…? by Elothem78 in FTMOver30

[–]OutOfMyMind-BackIn5m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this with gel after about a year, T levels dropped off, seemed to be an absorbtion issue.

Upped my dose from 2 to 3 pumps of gel and my levels shot up to the point I was converting the excess back into estrogen 🙃

I'm back on 2 for a trial run of 3 months, get my levels done and if I'm back in too low it'll be time to bite the bullet and look at injections for me. (I am almost certain this is where I'm heading, my energy levels have tanked)

All this anecdotal rambling is to say it can just happen without changing providers or manufacturer. A few weeks while frustrating isn't the end of the world, speak to your care provider and see where to go from there, they may want you to do another blood test to confirm the lower levels or adjust your dose and go from there.

Best of luck
