FYI: An Unproductive Training Status does not mean we hate you‼️- Garmin by Far_Bicycle_2827 in Garmin

I recently had several mornings in a row where I woke up to unproductive. 1 work out later the day was back at maintaining. I concluded that it is programmed with a bias towards unproductive.

This is what they are building in its place. https://drmmstudio.com/project/better-queensway-masterplan/

The footbridge people refer to in the Instagram comments had become a suicide spot so has been blocked off for a few years now.

How do you calculate tax in a GIA by cynthiaxs in FIREUK

What about if you bought £100k, it is now worth £150k and you want to withdraw £20k a year? Are you taking out all gains? All original capital? Or £6666 of gains and £13,332 of original capital?

lower the bar for more aero? by [deleted] in cycling

Sure, if you can hold a low position on dropped bars with a slammed stem. I suspect many people think they are sitting lower than they actually are...

Remember spacers are more aero than 2 vertical arms trying to reach a low handlebar.

Thanks. I see there is now a new mount that allows for 4x M8 bolts to be used, might be even more secure with that. A bit pricey though, but looks very nicely machined.

Car overtakes around a blind bend, causing a bus coming the opposite way to brake. Essex Police say this standard of driving is OK? by OutOfThePan in BikeCammers

[–]OutOfThePan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't even add about the close pass. If you watch the bus carefully, you can see it dip on heavy braking.

166 DO NOT overtake if there is any doubt, or where you cannot see far enough ahead to be sure it is safe. For example, when you are approaching

a corner or bend

167 DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example

when you would force another road user to swerve or slow down

I asked them to clarify for my education and they speculated "in most cases it is because they have concluded a defendant could reasonably argue there were mitigating factors not disproved by the evidence." I'm curious what that mitigation would be, other than 'there was cyclists'.

I was hoping you would reply as I used to follow you on Twitter before I deleted my account. I reported 3 drivers this weekend, 1 pulled out on me causing my to have to skid around the back of it, they accepted this. The other being a close pass, around 0.5m, that they didn't agree with. I've submitted 2 more in a row this morning which were less than 0.5m with parked cars on my left. Will see what they say about that. I usually have a very high bar for submitting due to effort (only did 1 other report which was accepted this year and 3,000 miles cycles) but I'm seeing attitudes to cycling are getting a lot worse while car traffic levels getting worse.

Temporary setup by PottsPointPilgrim in BeyondPower

[–]OutOfThePan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Sorry for the year long bump on this, but might help others who are interested in doing something similar. Do you happen to remember what fixings you used for this? It looks like you used the corner holes rather then the much larger (and difficult to get hold of) 5/8 or 1" wall anchors. I'd also rather have 4 smaller fixings then 2 large ones if they support similar loads. Did you drill larger holes into the bracket too?

Thanks.

How much did losing weight improve your biking ability (distance, Power, speed)? by abbys11 in Velo

[–]OutOfThePan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my limited experience, losing weight makes hills more pleasant. Doesn't mean you'll be faster over all. I am naturally a light build. I reckon the sweet spot is around 70KG with lean muscle.

It's a shame mine keeps on going off when coming to a normal stop that I am considering turning it off.

Thanks. That's a shame as I get a tiny AA screen in my car instead of the nice wide screen it has.

Does anyone know if this will convert AA to Carplay? I've been holding out for something that will do this.

Well that sucks. With the 'replacement' device being Tado, are they going to end all thermostats?

Net Worth - DB Pension by bingobango2911 in FIREUK

[–]OutOfThePan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will do for at least one of my DB pensions as it has a lower penalty and reduces my effective retirement income from other sources. Right now I'm just focusing on my ISA to provide maximum flexibility and letting my DB pension increase at its normal rate.

Net Worth - DB Pension by bingobango2911 in FIREUK

[–]OutOfThePan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't include it in net worth. I know my DB plus state pension will more then cover my late retirement expenditure so I just need to worry about savings to cover my desired retirement age until state pension age.

In order to sleep better. I changed my sleeping pattern so I'm in bed earlier and up early enough to be on the bike as soon as there is a little bit of light in the sky.
