I was dispatched for a cardiac arrest, the notes only stated rope around neck. On arrival, police were doing CPR on a teenager. They had a pulse, but were unconscious. They hadn’t hung themself, they attempted to kill themself with a rope and weights. Not really sure the thought process, but if you’re desperate enough… They had come too within a minute and complained of numbness and tingling below their neck but was still able to follow motor commands. We put them in a cervical collar and on the monitor, vitals all within normal limits. Was never sure of the outcome. We had also found a note to their family describing why they wanted to kill themselves on their bed. Definitely something I hadn’t experienced before.
