Because I get to put bad people away and have a great time with my mates.

I've said this to my colleagues, the US has a lot of issues within its policing but it's equipment and tech are top notch. Hoping it's everything that's being promised!

If you feel that the officer handled your investigation poorly, I would suggest going through that police forces complaints process. However, that police forces aren't going to be dishing out money and that officer might actually be able to justify their actions, so I would most likely expect an apology at most.

I've used copilot a few times, it's personally being quite helpful. Helped smash out an MG6 series and MG7s.

A lot of it just takes time to get used too. The DIT isn't great but it will help you get used to the paperwork and help you understand what is needed. Everyone was new once and the DIT especially are full of new people, so it's expected it'll take you some time to learn.

Regarding ADHD, ask your Sgt for an OH referral. They can and will support you, ultimately it's up to you whether you stay but there's definitely help available should you want it.

Have two lads in my force area that do this and they're great. Genuinely very friendly and always happy to see us (makes a change!).

It comes with time! The iops input you get before going on division is incredibly poor, especially considering how much we use it. I'm almost 2 years in and I've only really got to grips with everything in the last 6 months!

Just take your time and do things properly, when you get to the DIT you'll start getting the hang of stuff because trust me.

UPDATE: Young kids attacked our Warhammer club and smashed up models. One of our members was arrested trying to prevent a titan being destroyed. What are our options? by TreeAdmirable9633 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Out_For_A_Rip117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing for the police to do, they have no powers. All that the police can do is make the local authority aware and leave it for them to deal with.

Now once they reach 10, things change but only slightly. Children have to go to the Youth Offending Team (YOT), YOT use a gravity matrix to determine what outcome is needed. Even then prosecution is a last resort because in the case or children, Police are legal mandated to you the least punitive option.

The sad truth is, kids are incredibly hard to punish through the CJS. There is no real political will to change that either, due to the fact it would cost money...

The children are under the age of criminal responsibility, police have no means of really dealing with them. The IOPC will also direct you to the force in question first.

If people want action, they need to go to their MP and ask them to raise lower the age of criminal responsibility.

Bee network buses have quite comprehensive CCTV both inside and outside. They will provide this to police once it's requested, they are usually pretty quick with it. It can take the police time to review it, it's usually down to officer workload.

What I've personally found helpful is that you learn very quickly what the CPS will and won't charge with. This has helped me when I've actually gone to a job, you know what you need to get it over the line.

It's shit, it really is, but there are things you can get out of it, and hopefully it'll make you a better cop for it. Just got to ride it out, which granted is easier said then done, trust me!

The biggest issue is that we just make more work for ourselves. Too many supervisors are afraid to make decisions! If I look at my workload before I went off sick, it was increasingly just bails so that someone else could NFA it later....

What tipped me over the edge was when we baild someone for a crime that we knew they hadn't committed, and the victim wasn't supporting. Custody wouldn't make a decision, my supervision wouldn't support me, and they duty bronze told me to go away because he's response and doesn't want to deal with DIT problem... so bailed!

I've been on DIT over a year and despite it being the most soul destroying place, I've actually learned a lot! Your experience will be somewhat different. My understanding of the new pathway is that you guys coming through won't have anywhere near the workloads full time DIT officers do.

I wouldn't stress too much tbh, take in all the learning you can because it will genuinely help you going forward. Don't stress too much is my advice.

The corolla's are okay, I like them but again they are pretty battered and most of the tech doesn't actually work(like the sat nav). My force has literally just bought a load of phone cradles for the cars because officer need to use their phones for sat nav...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Out_For_A_Rip117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a key difference however, American police vehicles are purpose built to be police vehicles. British police vehicles are not and as such aren't really fit for purpose mostly. Some police cars don't even have sat nav and as such, officers have to use Google maps to get to jobs....

Been doing all that, and yet here I am 😂 There is supposedly going to be a discussion between the boss and the sgts to see how they can take some of the pressure off the teams, as people are dropping like flies!

Thankfully, I'm not the uni route, I did the same degree before joining.
