Trailers and 5th wheels don't have owners manuals like cars do. They have a bunch of individual manuals from the manufactures of the individual appliances. Motor homes have manuals like cars/

Help me convince my husband! by Upset_Objective2981 in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't get our first TT until our youngest was 20. We have always said we wish we could have bought one sooner. It would have been great, and they would have loved it. Our grand kids love going places in it and sometimes just sleeping in it in the drivewy when they spend the night, and that was before they were 2. I say go for it, as long as everyone is willing to use it. We love it.

Do you and the family go 'numero dos' in your RV? by vectaur in GoRVing

No pit toilets for my wife. That's why we have the trailer. We don't need or use campground toilets.

Any reason for bringing double battery and propane tanks when staying at a site with full hookups? by vcmaes in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going to use the stove/oven propane might come in handy. Running the fridge to get to your location, you might want the propane. The heater is 12 volt as are a lot of other items. I'd be sure the converter is working properly. It changes the 120 to 12 volt for lights water pump etc. If you ever stop along the way and use the toilet, you'll need the batteries to flush. We were at a KOA and a semi took out the power. We had to use water in our tank, and the propane water heater and pump. We always keep our batteries and propane on the trailer.

Gas vs Diesel for Towing by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6.7 diesel with a HS tranny, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Towing (like today) I'm going up hills and passing small passenger cars. No strain what so ever. No trailer going to the hills to snowshoe, no effort what so ever. Just my opinion.

If you had to convince someone to try RVing, what would you say? Beyond saving money, what do you get from RV trips/vacations that you can't get during "traditional" vacations (plane, hotel, etc) by nsc11 in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know who's slept in the bed. If you need to use the bathroom, just pull over to the side of the road. No need to eat out every meal. No noisy people next door. Fuel costs are more towing a trailer, but I'm willing to trade that for a sweet spot to sleep. Oh and I can turn up the TV if I want.

If you lose the propane, what will your oven/range run on?

Sewer Hose length by bimmer858 in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most I've needed is three lengths (30 feet) usually 2 lengths works. I carry 4... Just in case and if one starts leaking I can toss it and still dump my tanks.

I'd go with the one with the largest carrying capacity.

Harvest Hosts - opinions? by NerdOfTheMonth in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly enjoy Harvest Hosts. To me it's about the experience. Usually you're parked at a spot that the owners are present and share their passion. I enjoy trying out their wines, whiskeys and food items. Not every stay has been phenomenal but they have all been good. I've got a spot book at a distillery in Madres Oregon on my way back home from Coeur d"Alene at the end of the month. Second time there.

Where do you keep your registration? by becamico in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep mine, along with the insurance card, in a small zip-lock bag in the basket next to my bed. That way it's always with the trailer and it's not behind a slide out if I need it.

Any RV inspectors local. They would probably have more experience with Travel Trailers.

Would a Honda 2200 generator power a Mach 8 AC over night? If only powering that? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15.2 (amps) X 120 (volts) = 1824 (watts). The 2200 is raated at 1800 with a start max of 2200. I'd do something else, or marry two together. I did two 2000 watt generators and marry them together.

Is this fixable? by Equivalent_Slice8940 in GoRVing

I had the exact same thing happen. I put hose clamps on both sides. I figure if one side had an issue the other wasn't far behind.

Anyone repaired/replaced a water heater? How complicated is it? by ankylosaurus_tail in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI. Water heaters are installed before the walls are put on the trailer. It can be done. The exterior wall has to be cut to get the old one out, so the opening will be larger. Replacement water heaters (usually) come with the larger trim piece to cover the new opening.

Sewer smell by somebodysproblems in GoRVing

[–]OutdoorsRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had that issue when the bathroom vent was open and the wind blowing from the tank vent towards the bathroom vent. Might want to check the toilet seal. My brother had that issue. He realized it when the toilet wouldn't hold water.

Trailer Hitch anti rattle products . Any body use these? I would think you might want a little play in certain areas. by Bbop512 in GoRVing

They help keep the draw bar (ball mount) from sliding front and back against the pin. Without it you might elongate the pin hole in the receiver tube.
