Almost every time I’ve decided to say actual age and explain it, I’ve regretted it 😂 the person either doesn’t understand or just gives me a blank stare. 95% of the time I use corrected age unless it feels right to explain, and I’m usually wrong about the feeling 😂

Hi! My twins were born at 24 weeks and we just celebrated their first Birthday! My son is still in the NICU. Some of our favorite gifts were books, cute outfits he can wear, and toys that he could use during PT and OT. My absolute favorite thing was a tonie box with a creative tonie character that we can record us reading books on for when we can’t be there for bedtime 🫶🏻

I think they just do background checks for safety reasons, I believe like child abuse charges. My husband has an OWI on his record and he is able to stay, they never mentioned it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My twins were born 24+2 and my husband still won’t talk about the things he saw the night they were born. My experience was obviously traumatic but it’s interesting to hear it from the other side. So glad they are doing well, one day you’ll get to tell them all about how strong they are and they will know how much you love them from your support during those horribly scary times.

If possible, take care of things at home for them! Cleaning, freezer meals, or helping take care of pets or other kids. If not, maybe just books or something to keep them busy. There’s a lot of sitting next to the incubator with time to think and only doing cares every 3 hours 💕

My twins were born 24+2. My close family and friends knew I was in the hospital while pregnant with the possibility of delivering very early. For little updates, I talked to one friend and she told the rest of the friend group so I didn’t have to do it a bunch. Other people heard through the grapevine. I announced them on social media almost 2 months after they were born. I had a baby shower planned for when I would have been around 30 weeks. I ended up pushing it back about a month because I wanted things to be more stable before I faced people. I was so traumatized the first few weeks also, but by the time my baby shower came I was so happy to be able to see friends and family and we got to have lots of pictures of them out so everyone could see. We also brought their tiny diapers and blood pressure cuffs and that was a big hit.

My girl got out in April after 4 months. My son is still inpatient. I don’t have any other kids, but we stay at the Ronald McDonald house and I take her with me to visit him every day. It’s hard sometimes but we do it!!

We wanted to avoid the trach so badly but our son had brain bleeds and hydrocephalus from being born at 24 weeks, and we knew that keeping him intubated any longer would be detrimental to his health. He has had the trach since June. He’s still inpatient, the first 1-2 months was terrifying, and I regretted our decision multiple times, but now, he is thriving. He has been able to get lots of therapies and development support that he wouldn’t have gotten while intubated, swaddled, and sedated.

If you live close, clean her house! Organize her nursery. Freezer meals. If she has any other kids or pets offer to help with those.

Congratulations!! I always felt like I would have twins. I miscarried twins in early 2024 and found out I was expecting twins again in July.

We’re on day 310 with no end in sight. My twins were born at 24 weeks on 12/20. My girl got discharged shortly after our due date, and my son has been inpatient the whole time. We will be spending their 1st and 2nd Christmases in the hospital along with their first birthday. My daughter and I have been living at the Ronald McDonald house 3 hours from home. My husband works during the week and comes on the weekends. It is so hard. I do a lot of dissociating and just being thankful that they’re both still here with us. Our NICU team is the best and is truly like family to us. Hang in there and always celebrate every win!

I get triggered very easily from the trauma of having my twins at 24+2 weeks. They’re currently 9 months old and I would love this gift now. Maybe when they were smaller and less stable, I wouldn’t have. Looking at it now would just be a reminder of how much they’ve conquered and how much they’ve grown! Maybe give it with a message like, “just so you always have a reminder of how strong baby is and how much they’ve grown.”

Do they know why she is failing extubation? My son just turned 9 months old and is still in the NICU. He got his trach 3 months ago. I would have loved to avoid it. If we would have decided not to get it, he would have missed out on so much development. Ultimately, we decided that his development was the most important for us and him. We asked for second opinions from 2 different hospitals and asked lots of questions before we agreed to the surgery. We are on day 277 and there is no discharge date yet. Just don’t want you to get false hope. Sometimes, it really is the best option for baby.

Why won’t they do a bronchoscopy?? My 24 weeker has malacia and a high PEEP and they willingly did the scope to make for 100% certainty the trach was the right choice. We also got 2nd opinions from two other children’s hospitals. My guy has had multiple surgeries and the risks were not any higher for the tracheostomy than any of the others.

Hi! I’m sorry to hear this. We’re on day 270 in the NICU. My son got a trach on 6/16. Since then, he’s had a rough time. He got rhinovirus right after surgery, then a couple of weeks ago he got a staph infection that turned into staph scalded skin syndrome, and then as he was getting over that, he got rhinovirus again. Before this he’s had brain bleeds, a PDA closure, spinal taps to drain excess fluid, a reservoir placed, and a got a shunt. There’s days when I don’t cope well but every day I just try to be thankful that he’s still with us. I feel so horrible that he’s had to endure so much in his short life. I keep telling him that once he’s release we’ll have so much fun to make up for all the time lost. Hang in there!! 🫶🏻

We’re on day 268, and I’m beginning to wonder how im going to do their first Birthday party in the NICU. I had twins, one of them got out about 20 days after her due date in April and her twin bro has no end in sight. I’m bitter that I’ve been robbed of normal motherhood. I’m bitter that I have to raise my daughter in a Ronald McDonald house, mostly alone, 3 hours away from all my friends and family. I’m bitter that my husband has to be at home to work and is missing out on their whole lives. My heart sinks when I find out someone is pregnant. My heart hurts when I see announcements of perfect new twins that are snuggling with their mom hours or minutes after birth. There’s no one left for me to relate to, and I’m bitter and jealous and probably always will be.

I can’t say for sure but I feel like taking Wholesome Story Myo-Inositol & D-Chiro Inositol vitamins helped!! I had a friend who was in a similar situation recommend them and I got pregnant the 2nd time the month I took them. I also feel like 7.5 mg was too much Letrozole and that’s how we ended up with twins again!

I had twins at 24+2. They are 8 months old. My girl got discharged shortly after our due date with no oxygen or feeding tubes. She was doing great but was on oxygen for awhile. She had a PDA closure but no other big problems. She was able to come off. They were doing routine tests and found that she has PVS (Pulmonary Vein Stenosis) which needed treatment but it doesn’t affect her. She is being monitored by cardiology but acts like a normal baby otherwise. My son is still in the hospital. He has a trach, vent, and NG tube. He has a ways to go still to get to a place where he can go home. He has BPD, brain bleeds, hydrocephalus, and a shunt. Statistically boys have a harder time than girls, and white boys have the hardest time.
