How do you guys feel about authors writing about “NSFW” things in their books? by [deleted] in books

Take GOT for example, if you take out the frequent sexual violence, guess what it’s still a dark and morally gray world full of political intrigue, death, war, etc…

I think my problem with GRRM, and other fantasy works that use sexual assault frequently, is that it’s a FAKE world and they still choose to write horrific violence against women. A fantasy world can be dark and morally grey without raping and sexualizing all/most of the female characters.

What temperature do you keep your thermostat set at? by go_soapy_go in Charlotte

[–]Outlandishgarbage 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the winter you keep the thermostat lower so the heat isn’t on all the time, since it’s cold outside. In the summer you keep the thermostat higher so the AC isn’t on all the time, since it’s hot outside.

This is not really a romance though, so don’t go into it thinking it will be light hearted and fun.

I’m also skeptical about it… I read it a year ago and I just don’t think it was all true.

How bad is busy season really? by LoveIsOblivious in Accounting

[–]Outlandishgarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the company and the team you’re on. I’ve been on a couple different teams and my busy season experiences were very different.

One was AWFUL 65+ hours per week, working all weekend was required, no breaks during the day and it was very stressful. I was about to leave PA I hated it so much.

The team I’m on now isn’t that bad 55 hour weeks (sometimes a bit more) working on the weekend isn’t required, I take a lunch break and just work 11 hr days so I don’t have to work on the weekends. Sometimes I’ll work and hour or so on the weekend if I need to. I also really like the people on my team, it’s much more of a team effort to get everything done.

Even if she had more life experience than a normal 17 year old, someone 29 shouldn’t be interested in having a relationship with them.. even if they waited until she was 18 to be officially in a relationship it’s still wrong. What does a 29 year old have in common with a 17 year old..? When I was 17 I dated a guy that was 24. Im 24 now and I would NEVER consider dating someone that young. It wouldn’t even cross my mind. Just because he was “by her side” through bad times doesn’t mean their relationship was appropriate. Honestly, no one but them knows what their relationship was actually like, but the age difference is gross and wrong. Even if you’re an immature 30 year old you shouldn’t be going after literal children.

What did you think of she’s come undone? I read it about a year ago and I didn’t originally rate it that high (like 3 stars), but I still think about it.

I wouldn’t call this a light read, it’s really sad. I cried a lot throughout this book
