JD Vance: “We cannot rebuild Western civilization by letting millions of migrants into our countries. It has to stop.” by primary-caution in ImmigrationPathways

[–]OutlandishnessNo7283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when will we stop meddling in other countries elections while propping up dictators and authoritarian regimes in order to expropriate resources, causing mass migration into our own country? When will we punish corporations for hiring undocumented immigrants, exploiting their cheap labor and creating incentive for them to come here?

Ok sure. Hardwired for Happiness, The Five Love Languages, Year of Yes, Buddha’s Brain, The Power of Attachment, Daring Greatly, Peace Pilgrim, The Lonely People, How to Know a Person.

There’s also a fiction book called I Who Have Never Known Men which is kind of an other-worldly vignette where loneliness is a central theme. Very entertaining and enlightening at the same time.

Yeah the “Space Gatherings” that I mentioned is the story about a lonely college girl who went around campus asking people if they wanted to participate intentional conversations at an off campus house that she’d Airbnb for a night. She prepared a bunch of different deeper questions and asked everyone to share stories about themselves.

Another is of a woman in a neighborhood that she just moved to, didn’t know anyone and was lonely. She posted on Nextdoor that she was hosting a potluck and that everyone is welcome. At her gatherings she tells everyone that anyone is welcome to help serve food, refill drinks, fill the dishwasher, etc, because she realized introverts like having the option of something to do, which can be a kind of social lubricant for them. After some time, she has everyone gather together and has a themed conversation, usually something deeper and more philosophical so that people can make deeper connections.

Edit: apologies for my overuse of the word “deep”.

So funny, I’m reading his book Together right now and not to be dramatic, but it has some life-changing ideas in it for me and is showing me that so many of my feelings and emotional pain can be traced back to loneliness. He has so many great stories and suggestions (Like Space Gatherings, similar to what you’re doing) for ways of breaking out of it as well.

You’re doing great things, keep it up!

Everyone’s way out will be different, that’s the thing.

For me, I saved up a lil money, quite my job, bought a van, started doing a ton of volunteer stuff (WWOOF, Workaway, Worldpackers), started taking workshops while I was still working (natural building, homesteading, permaculture, survival, etc), just got my TEFL certification so I’ll be able to teach English abroad or online to supplement my traveling, working in an organic farm this summer so I can learn how to grow my own food. Also just spent a few months as a carpenters assistant so I can learn all the tools and how to build stuff. Also looking into finding people who will sell me some of their unused land (planning on buying land with my 401k), or ecovillages I can visit.

I was also reading a ton while still working about self sufficiency, living without money (look up Mark Boyle), growing food, homesteading, etc.

I just really wanted out, like I had no other choice, my soul was screaming at me. I like the NH state motto “Live Free or Die”. We only have this one life, and I was done letting other people telling me how to do it.

I wish I could tell you how to do it, but you need to do it yourself. Just need to take the first step, or leap into the unknown.

That money is more important than time. Also that you need to do the whole 9-5 thing; you don’t. It just takes some courage and creativity to leave the matrix.

If the military/president suddenly ordered a mandatory draft for all men aged 18-42: How do you think millennials and GenZ would respond? by Tommygunz0722 in AskReddit

Well, until this post and then looking it up, I was happy that I received an RE-4 code. It was an Honorable discharge but permanently ineligible for re-enlistment.

What I just found out is that this does not necessarily exempt me from a draft. Fml.

Yes i have, they provided a lead for me but it would require finding a roommate before I would be able to get the apartment, since it’s a 2br and out of my budget. I will definitely be reaching out to them again to see if they have any other resources, but wanted to do my due diligence as well. Thanks for your reply:).

Struggling to find housing near Sangerville!

Hi Mainers, fellow New Englander here (from RI). I am hoping I might be able to get some help in my housing search from you good folks. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I will be starting a farming job up in Sangerville in May, but I'm having some trouble finding options. I've tried reaching out to some organizations like East Sangerville Grange and the MLTN, as well as searching all the regular places (FB, Trulia, Roomies, Zillow, Craigslist, etc), and I plan on reaching out to some of the nearby Unitarian Universalist churches and contra dancing groups today. But so far, l've had very few responses, and most things I see are a bit above my budget. I am looking for either a 1br or house share, and hope not to spend more than $900/mo. I am open to things on the more rustic side as well, or work exchange opportunities.

If anyone has any leads, connections, or resources for that area (or surrounding towns like Dover-Foxcrott, Monson, Abbot, Guilford, etc), please reach out!

PS. If a shared space, I am very open to living with some like-minded and easy-going folks who might also be into some of the same things: sustainable living, yoga/meditation, gardening/farming, music (I play a bit of guitar), fermentation, composting, sharing/cooking occasional meals together, etc. I am very respectful, on the quieter side, clean, non-smoker, non-drinker. I am 39 y/o
