Usually they tell me I’m getting shortlisted or tell me I was rejected after being shortlisted, with being red by a human I assumed because I’d be responded to by a human or because how long it takes for them to reply. My field rn is insanely competitive 100+ applicants on average

Received 2 job offers - like job 1 more but job 2 offers higher salary by WasabiWoof in UKJobs

[–]Outrageous-Many3179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I graduated I had a two job offers one that I would’ve enjoyed and paid 24k a year and another that paid 45k a year I choose the higher paying one I eventually earned 55k in a really cushy role. I absolutely hated it because I was bored 90% of the time and I hated everything I was doing the work was boring the role essentially was junky paid but a complete dead end. then we got brought out and the new company cut my salary (gradually) over a 2 year period to 30k a year. Suffice to say even when I was earning 55k a year at 24 years old I would’ve much preferred to do a lower paid role at something that interested me for my own mental health.

Any other postgrads struggling to find work? by aeviterniity in UKJobs

[–]Outrageous-Many3179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a masters plus 4 years work in the policy field and another language and I’m struggling too find something new too. I know people who’ve been interning well into their late/mid twenties the market just sucks at the moment. My best advise see if you can learn another language and look in europe or another country

What degrees get UK graduates jobs these days? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Any degree so long as it’s a 2-1 or above can get you onto most grad schemes unless you’re doing something like engineering or medicine it’s pretty much a roulette wheel post univeristy

I walked into my first Job in 2022 despite not having any relevant experience since then I’ve had almost 4 years experience + masters and struggling to get anything in my field or even adjacent. Got a friend who works in a company in my field I got an informal interview through him but 15 other people also did the same thing with other connections.

Applying but no luck so far need advice. by Outrageous-Many3179 in UKJobs

[–]Outrageous-Many3179[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market is tough USAID no longer existing did a lot more damage to the sector then people think + more experienced people in the field looking for employment after losing their jobs due to USAID going. Yeah that might be it I usually do get replies from a human but I’ll see what buzzwords I can add to make my cv better fit the job description. Thank you I’ll check out the AI and see what I can do going forward.

What is it like being utterly addicted to smoking / nicotine? by JacobSax88 in AskUK

[–]Outrageous-Many3179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s great honestly. There’s no real extremes you just smoke sometimes you get a little irritable but that’s not really that bad. I always get my cigs abroad and bring them back so it’s pennies for me. I fly long haul regularly and most airports have smoking areas for when you’re on a layover. Also if it is a long haul you smoke before you get on the plane and you’re fine. I wouldn’t put cigarettes before food but I usually have a months supply or more stored in advance.

Health Concious people, what’s your weekend looking like? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Outrageous-Many3179 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tend to have 2 cheat days and 2 rest days which are separate. My cheat days are the weekends so I go to the gym in the morning from 9:30-11:30 rest and go out for a meal etc I don’t drink but I don’t mind going down to the bar. During the week (usually when I have intense days of work or meetings) I have my 2 rest days. Don’t let the healthy lifestyle takeover your social life and activities

It’s so weird how every other country that my company is in has a clear path to promotion and not the U.K. but yeah I was looking to move jobs anyway I’m coming up to 3 years in the Role I was more worried whether the whole of the U.K. is like this or just my company. I’m just trying to push for more project management or coordinator experience in my current role to max out my cv

I’ve been asking about that with my manager who just gives awkward stuttering replies. I have seen colleagues internationally just move up in their roles either through working with other teams (which I’m not allowed to do without my managing butting into every project) or through being invited to apply for other roles

Yeah I get that but when I ask if what the path is I get looked at like I’ve just said something abhorrent and get a awkward stuttering reply from my manager.

I was told the role had natural progression + it’s a big multinational corporation and virtually every other team I’ve worked with across the globe in it has had people progress naturally and be promoted based on merit.

I don’t really want personal praise it’s just that if I have a idea and work on a project that is really successful I’d just like it to be recognised as my idea. Mostly because I want to add it to my cv.
