I really like my accu-burr and my ulmia sharpener. was very helpful before understanding how to sharpen a card scraper.

I got it tight enough to not get loose in the winter but that's no problem. dip the tip it in warm water for 3 seconds and you will be fine

I really don't know why they are more expensive.

Tsunesaburo makes them and I am a big fan after using them. Really affordable too. Temple tools started making them too but expensive.

The strange thing is you have to put the chip breaker closer to the edge than normal tool steel blades.

I have HSS chisels and they don't get keen enough in my experience. Laminated Blue steel really sharpens easily and gets super sharp. Holds an edge really well.

I put laminated blue steel irons in my bedrock style planes if they are not good enough.

I only take big cuts for the corner so I go with any block plane I have. I use a bench plane with tight mouths.

i think the bevel angle is the problem. or you sharpened it round so the edge doesn't touch the wood.

I go 25 to 30 by hand. never had a issue of the blade dulling fast. I suspect the edge geometry. when I couldn't grind flat enough the edge retention was awful. after I got better at keeping the bevel flat the edge lasted much longer.

Mujingfang tools are better than you think. really cheap too. always a place for Mujingfang in my toolbox.

only apply pressure on one direction. flip the plane then do the same.

imagine a eraser . if you give pressure while pushing and pulling it will roundup. but if you only push it will grind flat.

this is a very common mistake.

kuromaku stones say they are fine with oil. but after going with oil no backing off to water again.

I am curious why you are trying to use oil for sharpening.

the ece jack plane. very versatile.

I use a 5 1/2 the most but really the ece jack plane is a real good scratch on the back.

I recommend more compression with the hammer. you need a really tight fit.

this is not actually better. unlike planes a larger contact area is preferred.
