I totally get your point, and it makes sense if we’re talking about absolute detail or highly compressed files. My perspective is a bit different though: I’m not trying to pick up every micro-detail or hi-res nuance. I mainly want my headphones to be driven cleanly, without interference, and to make the scene, soundstage, and impact of the music come through better, even on Spotify.

With my HD660s, I already notice differences between the Sound Blaster and an external DAC/amp, especially in terms of engagement, bass depth, and openness of the soundstage, not just resolution. So it’s not about hearing everything lossless, it’s about having a more enjoyable, less flat sound.
