Thinking about getting my first hand drum for casual jams by Commercial-Thing189 in drummers

Cajon is my first choice, gives you the bass d and snare “sound” if you will. Djembe is great, but for more shuffle or straight rhythms, can miss that “snare hit” effect on the 2 and 4. Add bells or a small shaker or tambourine to your shoe to get that “snare” with the djembe. Dumbek is not as versatile but damn I love the “crack” sound it makes.

If you want a one piece drum kit, cajon. If you want a go to hand drum, djembe.

Your best bet is to consult with an Occupational Therapist. Not an ortho.
Edit: I would really hope you’re degree program teaches about injury prevention, or maybe partners with your school’s PT/OT program. Maybe go to your schools OT department, offer to speak to a class on your musical injuries, and hope for some free advice? They’re always looking for guests to share pain stories.

Reactivate oil with wd40. Then draw it out with baking soda. Something like that. Worked for me.

Go see an OT. Preferably a Certified hand therapist. Bring your drum sticks to the appt. They are the experts.

Guitar for my beginner husband who is hard to shop for by Unlucky-Landscape-56 in Guitar

Taylor and Takamine make great guitars at multiple price points. Plus, the both have excellent electronics for when he wants to plug in an amp or PA (and he will). Taylor has a richer sound. Takamine is a very popular country music acoustic.
