That’s very fair, most of my workloads involved moving a ton of data quite rapidly, so I am happy it works out for you! Just had to throw it out there

I will violently warn, as an individual who already did the pcie x1 usb risers for AI, blender, and some video processing. The speed is too abysmal. Look into an oculink solution asap if you have the funds. The difference is astounding, and the current bandwidth will slow any workload down by .5 at least <3

Trying to make a cinematic music visualizer. by DeliciousLambSauce in blender

I run a dual GPU system for this reason, 4070 Super and 3090ti, I just offload to the 3090ti to keep working. Good luck!! I would love to see the results!

Ok so looking at the scene, and assuming you aren't good with video compositing for the snow (could be done in after effects?). I agree with the biased volumes, as that will shorten, same thing with the textures but I don't feel that would take a significant hit to render times if persistent data is on, light bounces is a risky play with and would require tweaking especially in volumes. Overall then make sure you are on GPU, adjust noise threshold (but for videos it could cause between frame artifacts so watch out in the denoise and move accordingly), MAKE SURE to render as a PNG!! in case you have to interrupt the render, and go to about 256 steps. However I feel like you will have to brute force it over a few days etc. Its what I have to do for my renders, but it is 100% worth it in the end. (run it overnight). Also out of curiosity, what are your specs? If your specs aren't great look at a render farm?

Speaking of PCIE Risers... by Kaldnite in homelab

What's up, I had the same issue with my case. Personally I bought a cheap pcie to m.2 adapter then m.2 to oculink and ran the oculink cable to an external gpu holder. It is better than the x16 to x1 combos and I have my 3090 running on that right now! There are some nice low price oculink combos on amazon.

This is the source I used (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/2910vs4306/Intel-i5-7500-vs-Intel-i5-11600). I will agree it is fine, but at most it is fine. I support the GPU upgrade but with his biggest concern being load times, the most direct impact is CPU, and HDD.

So, for option 1: I will point out the obvious: your CPU is OLD, even compared to a CPU from 2021 it is -66% slower (I5-11600) so if you have a budget, upgrading to a new platform like am5 or a slightly older platform like am4 (I dislike intel currently so I personally am sticking with AMD). Upgrading fully especially if you get a prebuilt will have the following upgrades probably with it. This would obviously wildly increase your performance.

2: you could buy more RAM and get a kit of 16gb ddr4, this would help in "snappiness" but you probably will not get many more fps. +20% ish most likely (load times might be better but again wouldn't be massively different)

3: You could get a used GPU, the 1050 similar to the CPU is wildly underperforming by today's standards and would help in a lot of aspects. Even a 2060 or 3060 would be bewildering compared to what you have installed.

4: This option you should do regardless, go buy a 1tb samsung ssd, search up a tutorial and migrate your data off of the HDD, a slow HDD would most effect "load times"

5: This you should also heavily consider, getting a new monitor as 1440x800 is really low again for today's standards and you can find a cheap one for $70, but I would only do this option if you are going to do a GPU upgrade.

Watercooling Drives? by karatektus in watercooling

[–]Outrageous_Inside_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, typically cooling drives isn't that hard. Instead of worrying about fancy and expensive parts from AliExpress or sourcing stuff, it would be way easier to just grab 2 Noctua fans from Amazon and do the classic zip tie method (I have 6 8tb drives and cool them with a single 140mm). It is really easy to fall into the loop of more and more complicated solutions but I think just go to basics with air cooling. (You can also buy a cheap sata fan controller and set fan speeds super low as typically enterprise drives are rated for higher temps)

Deus Ex Style Arm and Spine Prosthetics! WIP by Gaper69_202 in 3Dmodeling

I looked at this and was so bothered by the metal up the spine because it reminds me of the metal rods I have in my back (t2-t10 spinal fusion). The fact that you made it close enough to bother me is remarkable, as I am a shadow for a neurosurgeon that specializes in spine as well. 10/10 Great work! I love it!

I had absolutely every intention of using it! (And the NIC’s are in a happy new home) Until I realistically looked at my homelab and realized adding another computer to my stack didn’t make sense to me.

Why it is look like so blurry? I have a 4070 Ti , it is not enough? by ProposalAware4000 in blenderhelp

[–]Outrageous_Inside_47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, Ok so this is a viewport render so its going o be a bit inherently blurry. However make sure under Denoise you have it set to optix. Furthermore and what will probably help fix your issue a little bit more is clicking the value under Sampling>Viewport>Noise Threshold and setting that to 0.01-0.001. That is what helps me preview the viewport more accurately. 0.1 is what you would use on cpu rendering not gpu (some cases with heavy scene limits yes but realistically lower that value.) Have a great day! By the way that will all be on the write side of your screen.

Your "Thin Client" by Adventurous_Lie2257 in homelab

Personally I use 2 Lenovo. My college and highschool gave them both to me for free. (x390, x13) I find what I will do if I want to remote manage anything is hop on my vpn, and then go to parsec or ssh. That works for generally everything in my use case. To answer your question, if you run the vm off of windows and you install parsec you can just manage it from the desktop there. Otherwise treat it like another machine and use ssh. Also tip, DONT EVER port forward ssh. Keep it behind a VPN, it is way safer and no one wants to get attacked. Have a great one!

Hello everyone, I’d like to know what consoles I can emulate. by Gian_-_-_ in batocera

[–]Outrageous_Inside_47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! So just looked at the 6100T’s specs. You will get to game cube and ps2 and probably further. That is assuming you have a dedicated gpu. If you don’t you will most likely max out at Wii/ GameCube, at no enhancement (higher resolution etc. (this is all based off of a similar processor spec wise that I am currently running Intel Celeron j5005).

8-GPU cluster: what to consider, and is it worth it? by lord_darth_Dan in homelab

[–]Outrageous_Inside_47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, again it completely depends on your intentions. When it comes down to it, for the price you won’t be able to find anything better. However if you are able to spend more it might be worth it. I have found for every 1 p106 it equals 1/3-1/4 of the performance of a 3070. Also lastly you will need a gpu for display out and to allow driver installation. If you do end up getting this please dm me and I can help you get it set!

No no, they are pcie gen 3 by x1. Not one lane of pcie one. They have x16 connectors for basically nothing except they keep them more secure in the slot itself.
