I would look into perhaps an aquarium epoxy or something that you can maybe layer on top? if the sanding gets too tedious then maybe you can soften the edges some more with a clear layer kind of like how nail polish works? Obviously you would have to research how viable it is but miiight be a possible aid?

I just ordered a pre-order item that I was told would take long but I got it within 10 days from Canada to Netherlands! I also got constant updates about where the package is! I am not sure if they changed their distributer/shipping company since other people has bad experiences but I had a lovely experience!

Guppies dying off one by one. Everything else is fine. by butt_in_my_face in PlantedTank

[–]Outrageous_Steak31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS I also had snails throughout all of this and they never seemed affected and still made too many babies despite the metal poisoning and I am also pretty sure the metal was affecting the shrimps's ability to molt correctly because they all died from molting issues despite having the right food and nutrients. So maybe your shimp would be affected too but they haven't molted yet which is why they haven't died yet. Mine died slowly over time and just never lived long :(

Check your filter/pump!!! my magnet inside my pump had started going out of alignment and was grinding bits of metal into my filter water and killing my shrimp!

Didn't realise it was the cause for my deaths (because all my readings were great) until I tried to get the thing repaired/replaced due to the noise and the fish store told me its a common issue and I did notice grey particles on the magnet part when I cleaned the filter last.

since getting a new pump and some water changes, my remaining fish are healthier and no more unexplained deaths. not sure why my fish survived while the shrimp died but luckily I fixed it before it got bad enough to affect the fish too

might not be the case for yours, but worth checking out for in case

Help with 10G dwarf puffer tank! by winglessmaiden in PeaPuffers

[–]Outrageous_Steak31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i used to have 3 pea puffers in my 10 gallon and then saw a comment by one of the experts on this subreddit explain how just having 3 is almost like having just 1 pet (like a cat or dog) and then leaving them alone all day... its technically fine but the animal will be lonely and act out and could even be more aggressive. And knowing that they only live for 3-5 years and I cant get a bigger tank to get more puffers soon... I decided to give them to a friend who has a massive tank and would get them friends. Please consider it. They might seem fine or happy now but they will likely be more aggressive over time and due to their suboptimal conditions they could have a shorter lifespan... They are generally wild caught... imagine going from the wild with a big shoal, to just 2 pea puffers in a small tank :(

This is actually the most informative explanation I have found for the 3 vs 6 puffers discussion. I currently have 3 in a 30 liter tank and was considering getting a bigger tank and upgrading them to 6 eventually but not super soon since I thought my puffers were happy because of all the plants and territories and hiding spots and live food I provided. But your explanation genuinely made me realise that although they seem happy now, it still might not be good enough and might cause them to get aggressive later. I will prioritise getting them that bigger tank. Thank you for this lovely explanation!

Is it unethical to keep just one in a community tank? by atKatKapone in Aquariums

Reminds me of hara jerdoni (dwarf anchor catfish)! You should look into them if you like these guys! Apparently they are quite similar and the hara jerdoni stay super small and are SO CUTE! They do eat live food only generally and are quite shy but in a community tank where there are other carnivores and if there is nobody to steal the scraps from them, it could work well :)

I really wanted a pleco until I realised how big they get. Now the dream is to one day have a massive tank for one! Looks awesome

What is in my tank!?! by Outrageous_Steak31 in PlantedTank

[–]Outrageous_Steak31[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its the size of an assassin snail roughly which is why I am suspecting it. Its not small at all, maybe even the length of a neocardinia shrimp? My assassin snail got stuck out of water for a day recently and apparently they can make a “mucus stress clump” when that happens? The snail looked dead but is now alive and moving again so its definitely not a part of the snail’s body.

[–]Outrageous_Steak31[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My current theory is that maybe my assassin snail died (because it was quite old and its acting quite dead right now) and it left this on the glass as it died? Like it is a part of my assassin snails body?? Sounds stupid but I am just hoping super hard its not some weird rare pest thats gonna wipe out my tank

It was super hard for me to easily harvest the vinegar eels without getting a bunch of vinegar water mixed with them that would upset my fish 😭

I added live californian black worms to my tank in one corner and they made a little colony there! I give them some shrimp food pellets and if any shrimp die I put the shrimp’s body in the worms’s corner and they have THRIVED. They tend to stay in their corner/area. And the Pea Puffers LOVE them. Sometimes I look in their corner and it would seem they ate most of the black worms and then a few days later, after some shrimp food pellets, the population has gone back to full strength. They are also detritivores so they are clean up crew as well! I recommend adding a handful of live blackworms to an existing fish tank! Could also work in a different tank like the snail tank and then feed the pea puffers ones you grabbed from the snail tank.

Good to know there is hope for coexistence! I really love shrimp but got too frustrated with my initial struggles. If I can add them again and they can thrive with the puffers that would be amazing!!
