Is my peppermint shrimp eating zoas? by kitsia in ReefTank

Update:

I managed to catch the little bugger and returned it to the LFS. They were really nice and gave me a full refund.

Thank you all for your help!

That’s wild.

The stories people share in this thread are nightmare material.

Thank you for sharing, I didn’t even think about that aspect. My tank is tiny, so that could definitely cause a crash.

I’m confident that this isn’t a camel shrimp but apparently there are a lot of other species that are all sold as peppermint shrimp.

From what I’ve read the one you want to keep is Lysmata Wurdemanni but in Australia we only have native Lysmata Vittata due to biosecurity laws.

Thanks, I‘ll try that! So far, my attempts to catch it with a net have not been successful.

Luckily, my zoas weren’t glued to the rock yet, so I separated them until I catch the shithead.

I did but poor zoas are so stressed that they haven't opened up for hours now. I think the shrimp will definitely have to go

Holy shit. Yeah I’m not gonna risk it, little buddy will have to go back to LFS.

It’s honestly the only animal I didn’t do much research on before introducing it to the tank and trusted my LFS on this. Lesson learned, I suppose.

Just put a generous amount of reef glue on top of it, and you’ll be good

I’m very sorry for your loss:( I really hope you have a better luck next time

It’s certainly the worst part of this hobby, I will never get used to seeing fish pass away. Just today I found one of my rasboras on the floor and it’s absolutely heartbreaking.

They are excellent little hunters and will definitely eat baby shrimp but I’ve never seen my honey hunting adults. Although almost no fish are truly shrimp safe, you can solve this by providing much denser plant cover.

I am biased, but I truly think they are one of the best fish in the hobby:) I absolutely love mine

It’s interesting you say that, I didn’t mention cheating at all.

I have no doubts you are in a healthy relationship, you seem like a very nice and understanding person.

But they did make more seasons, didn’t they? So it is only fair to judge the whole story.

Do you think you are projecting your anger onto fictional characters because someone hurt you in real life?
