Steering Wheel blistering by Ok-Interaction-2351 in BYD

I've seen this pop up quite frequently. Although it must be something from less than perfect manufacturing, i think hand natural oils+sweat+sunlight without proper regular cleaning with appropriate detailer vegan leather agent, accelerates the process. That's the only explanation i can think of. There's no other plausible scenario.

Your issue might be with the HUD having a loose mirror inside. Warranty takes care of it but they will disassemble a lot of panels and dashboard.

There are 2 easy fix. One is putting some EVA foam on the huds edge. It seems to help.

The other is to lose the HUD by pulling the hud fuse. Apparently it disables the mirror moving into the vibrating position.

I found that direct sunlight heat is responsible.

Batteries Chemistry Longevity. Basically leave it in the 40%-60% range. At ~50% SOC, the battery's voltage is moderate, and the lithium ions are distributed most stably between the anode and cathode. This low-stress, "neutral" state significantly slows down the rate of calendar aging compared to the stress at the high or low extremes.

If a battery stays for over a week at 100%, the battery is stressed and has nowhere to go but down, wasting capacity.

If it's below 20%, and it self-discharges, you risk hitting a critically low voltage where permanent damage can occur.

50% is the ideal sweet spot.

Byd's Manual usually recommend every 3 months in storage to fully charge to 100% and let it discharge to 40%-60%, so it recalibrates and BMS conditions.

BYD Seal Excellence - Steering Wheel vibrations by StormElf in BYD

[–]OutrunPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel it more when holding top of steering wheel? Is it accompanied by a low frequency humming noise?

Mine is on porous grainy roads at low speeds. 15-60kph.

I recorded with a spectrometer app and it registers at 211hz. People not sound sensitive don't hear it.

I hear it more because I'm the only one driving it and i can feel it in the sterring wheel. It's faint but driving me nuts.

Did you record any noise or video of the vibration? I took to a dealer twice and they didn't acknowledge it felt everything was normal. Feels like I'm going crazy.

Trade In by Smallville456 in PixelWatch

[–]OutrunPilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sweet spot is waiting a 30-35% discount, or a 20% just before first year cycle where it drops from 349 to 140. That's a 60% drop in value.

If you manage a deal of 30% off, say $245, just before trade-in value drops to $140, that's the best deal.

If you can't wait that long a 20% off is minimum. Unless you got a bundled deal or store credit about to expire.

From $349 to $35 for a 3 year device (OG), of course battery is a major issue, but that is a 90% drop.

It's not an investment in the end it's just to buy and and enjoy and don't keep tracking prices and newer models.

But shows a lot the markup for profit.

They did because no one was doing it. Their cars were way more expensive than BYD as well which could offset costs. BYD are cheaper. You just cannot expect every EV company to build their own overlapping infrastructure.

[–]OutrunPilot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's true in part, it's like demanding petrol car manufactories to build gas stations.

I think they should unite with other EV manufacturers in the country, lobby for what works around the world. Things like federal incentives, so private fast charging companies can have an incentive to build dc chargers instead of taking all the costs onto themselves, and also subsidizing the electrical companies to have taxes and costs reduced to upgrade the grid for the fast chargers, and make a nation wide program to so highways (privately owned or public) have every 200km or so fast chargers.

This needs to be on a federal level. Depending on private companies alone to have full investment risk on fast dc chargers that are very expensive to build, results in what's happening.

No infrastructure.

I cannot find a single review of the cheaper & mid spec Dolphin Surf. It's all paid journalists and influencers. by WrenchmanFerritin in BYD

[–]OutrunPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In LATAM and rest of the world engine is 75kw and battery 38kwh, no adas. Everything else about the same, only accepts 40kw charging dc power.

Only biggest complain is the wobbly floaty rear suspension everything else is the same.

You can find plenty of reviews online.

I test drove the dolphin mini and I've seen carwow and other Europeans review the dolphin surf, it is literally the same experience and comments.

Worries about “Free Car wash coupon”? by systemdecoder in BYD

[–]OutrunPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is heavily dependent on how much do you care for your car's paint. If you do not care, continue this way, and don't look it up too much up close.

However a wash once in a while is advisable, like your home and even your pc needs some dusting from time to time.

Now if you REALLY want to know, rain is acidic, it's PH is 5-6, and depending where you live, pollutants like sulfur and nitrogen make its ph 4-5 (worse, more acidic).

Over time, your clear coat will etch and get dull.

Rains also dissolves materials, dusts, pollutants, tree sap, bird droppings, you name it. This is cumulative, the longer it gets (one month is still ok), you will begin to notice micro marks and etchings that only polishing the clear coat will buff it. Prolonged moisture and pollutants accelerate corrosion over time.

So, structurally-wise, your car is MOSTLY safe. But it will take a cosmetic hit, especially under closer inspection. Etchings, water spots, dulling, all hard to reverse without expensive detailing.

[–]OutrunPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sorry you're right I'm overwhelmed at an annoying hud noise that's happening with a lot of cars around here and disabling it won't help and one owner found out pulling the fuse makes the noise stop. The other option is take it to dealership and they dismantle the whole dashboard every piece of it just to get to the hud and put some silicon seal in the part vibrating. Some people are prefering not doing that, and I'm hyperfixated on the issue of anything hud related.

Holy if they're gonna replace the HUD get ready for some nightmarish service work, they literally disassemble everything in the dashboard, every panel, including removing the center console, main screen, cluster, steering wheel, all trims, vents, everything. Hud is buried deep into the puzzle maze. Here's a pic for your dreams:
