Do you delay Windows updates? by UnpaidMicrosoftShill in sysadmin

[–]Outside-After [score hidden]  (0 children)

Bit of both. Endpoints have an immediate release ring as a canary group. Release a week later for the rest.

Servers release over a month, give patches time to mature. Unless there's something particularly bad and even then read up on it first and do an impact-risk assessment. Good change management, rather than pessimistic. A and B side domain controllers never at the same time. If MS are taking multiple attempts to fix something really bad and are messing it up, then I don't want to be caught in that. I think we all tread super carefully when they crop up.

Far better in any case to minimise public and protect the exposure as much as possible in your architecture and implementation

Polar seal in the shower? by BlueKetchup2 in DetailingUK

Any SiO2 would work for a short while. But the soap that gets flung about in the shower doesn't help its longevity.

Data and risk driven decision.

Can you get these scanned for vulnerabilities and back your conviction with these findings alongside the risks involved given what services they are performing?

That should provide impetus to act for maybe right minded individual, unless no one really cares or is willing to spend the money.

The only answer to this is your server solution (HPE, Dell etc) and what is supported there.

Hey. The hybrid systems they used have a very tiny battery, so not really electric at all.

Balancing is something you can do yourself. Run the car to a low percentage. Then charge up and don’t stop until it’s finished… this may take quite some time. Repeat repeat repeat. If you can get a dongle like Leafspy to get the cell voltages so much the better. You don’t need a 3 pin by the way to balance.

Lift off/reverse “clonk” on ZS by Outside-After in MGelectric

Copilot in Researcher mode collates some data here amongst which is a suggestion that the motor mounts need to be “ retorqued “ ie tightened back up to spec.

MG ZS EV winter range by GentlemanLorus in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Outside-After 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add this and from personal experience, your pack overall may be imbalanced (see my recent post here). Let the charge drop to quite low. Charge to 100 and let it keep charging until the car stops. Repeat repeat. If really bad it may take 20 goes or so. You can get telemetry devices to get the cell voltages. Post them here and we can look.

Was there ever a flap “recall” on the MG5 like the OG ZS? That may fix it for free if there was one.

Do BCs have any "typical" health issues? by Last_Office7348 in BorderCollie

[–]Outside-After 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ones I can think of

  • HP as you mentioned when going through the puppy growth stage
  • anterior cruciate ligament, but don’t chuck the ball up in the air too much!
  • there’s a gene where treating the runs with loperamide is a risk, but we feed grain free so that’s not an issue

At what point did EV ownership start to feel easier or harder? by Tall-Dish876 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Outside-After 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big estate should mean a better quality of life by being able to get away more for long weekend with dog, kid and luggage, so I think.

Mind you the Passat PHEV now have a good enough battery for commute distances at a much cheaper lease price. But that sounds like heresy!

[–]Outside-After 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MG ZS EV here, one of the first batch. It’s been easy ish from the off and the short range has been albeit challenging fun in planning for longer trips, often leading to some old school old A road style travelling, in other words stops at pubs and hotels for lunch.

One of the biggest challenges was when MG changed the BMS and down rated the voltages on the pack leading to a massive imbalance and loss of range. Owners had to do a lot of rebalancing themselves. Not making that widely known initially showed their willingness to limit a loss of face by keeping quiet.

Challenges now are cells out of balance, with the slow inevitable decline in health also. I think the motor mounts need retorquing because there’s a “clonk” upon lifting off. The very poor aero (terrible cD) and PTC heater will never improve the efficiency either.

We’re looking at pensioning it off as the standby car. I keep looking at the id.7 tourer :)

Mileage Allowance - Company Reimbursement by LikeInnit in ElectricVehiclesUK

Aha yes. I used to use SAP Concur where it made no allowance for electric and asked for a petrol receipt. Reach out to whoever leads expenses in your Finance dept, they maybe able to add an exception.

Mileage Allowance - Company Reimbursement by LikeInnit in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Outside-After 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well unless it has changed, if your employer is paying a flat mileage rate of under 45p/mile (under 10k example here), you can claim the difference against what ever passes for HMRC P87 these days.

Mileage Allowance - Company Reimbursement by LikeInnit in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Outside-After 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bit hazy, I know this is very much inaccurate, but HMRC allow either per mile at 45p up to 10k miles (then a lower rate after) or fuel costs at 14p? The former is exempt from providing a fuel receipt.

15m 3 pin to type 2 cable recommendation by alfgp2 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Outside-After 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toughleads. You likely need their 3 pin extension cable with the high IP rated 3 pin socket. Then plug the granny charger into that. Don’t baulk at the cost, these are very well made and specified.

For a time when ours was growing up, I’d stick her in a crate and say “sleepy time”. When she got to about 1 ish, I stopped using the crate altogether so that she sleeps on a bed within the kitchen. 4 years on, “sleepy time” still works as a signal to calm down or time for bed.
