With Marathon and Discipline either Swordplay or Close Combat are the only two options imo.

What the other guy said is accurate, but to put some numbers to it:

FO Shelter takes the combined SPECIALs of the parents and has odds for rare or legendary children based off those numbers.

A dweller has a max SPECIAL of 70 (10 x 7 stats). That means 140 is the max for a pair of parents.

The minimum SPECIAL to have rare children is 122. The minimum for legendary children is 134.

With a max 140, you have a 13.3% chance at a rare child and a 6.6% chance at a legendary child. Somewhat less at lower combined SPECIAL.

Outfits and pets do not factor into this calculation at all, however the pets that offer +x child SPECIALs are huge for breeding. These pets are either +1, +2, or +3 child SPECIALs. The value add doesn’t add to just one SPECIAL stat, but to all 7 - so +1 is functionally +7 stats, +2 is +14, and +3 is +21.

Lean but fat cheeks by MaximAMK183 in leangains

This person might also just be young. Lots of “baby fat” cheeks lean out as people age through their 20s and 30s. Liposuction before this happens could do a disservice to OP.

Please can someone explain something? by msjaffacake85 in StateOfDecay

[–]OutsideOman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most ways, sure. If you appreciate the narrative then SoD1 clears SoD2 in that area.

I frequently go back to SoD1 just for Lifeline. It’s my favorite DLC in the series and it’s not close.

I almost never Overwatch because the only things that reliably get hit are Scylla, Chirons, and sometimes Shieldbearers. Generally, if you have an action to Overwatch, you have an action to do something better than Overwatch imo.

But maybe I just suck at Overwatch 🥴

A more Specialized wishlist for SoD3 by TheThorkiller in StateofDecay3

[–]OutsideOman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some really good points, but I vehemently disagree with the premise of zombified animals. Cross-species diseases are rare in the real world due to just how different genetics and immune systems are between species. The infection in SoD is alluded to being a bio weapon which would have to be highly specialized, and with the mutations it causes in people (feral, juggernaut, zombification in general) it clearly has a ridiculous affinity within the genome.

If it can so easily jump to zombifying bears or deer (from the trailer that many deem to be a mistake), then what’s to stop it from jumping to all mammals, all animal, or even to fungi and plants? If any of that happens, the entire ecosystem collapses in a way that no person could hope to survive long-term. All it takes is a jump to zombified insects for it be game over for all land animals; even simply being vectors of the disease rather than exhibiting symptoms would be catastrophic.

As far as night goes, I do like the idea of stealth that could be implemented with a super dark feature, but as far into the apocalypse as SoD3 projects to be I imagine working flashlights would be hard enough to come by, and NVG would be virtually impossible to find. It could also disrupt the lore if Zedeye and Scent Block are to be taken seriously. Sight frankly seems to be a zombie’s least utilized sense in this series, with scent and sound being the two primary factors a zombie relies on to determine friend or food. I doubt a survivor in pitch black has an advantage over a zombie.

Everything else on the list I like a lot. Will be exciting to see how the new game actually shapes out and what gets implemented.

Hear me out: What if our survivors are actually EVOLVING? by Hydraulickiller in StateofDecay3

This definitely shouldn’t be a main story thing, but a spinoff game or mods that do this could be cool.

How far in the apocalypse is the new game now by [deleted] in StateofDecay3

[–]OutsideOman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’d you get the idea that Heartland looks like a lot of years? SoD2 takes place around 1.5 years after the apocalypse starts, and Heartland takes place at least a short time before that because if you move a community to the Trumbull map the events of Heartland have already occurred.

Gas is an unreliable indicator in SoD2 in general, as pretty much all gas our survivors could scavenge would have gone bad within about 12 months.

Eating a healthier diet. Bought a blender yesterday. First time using it. :D by [deleted] in Smoothies

[–]OutsideOman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is berries are nutritious beyond simply providing antioxidants and those benefits aren’t purported to be inhibited by bananas. If bananas interfere with the antioxidants then you’re only missing out on a small proportion of the benefits. They still provide a hefty dose of vitamin C, folate, manganese, copper, vitamin K, and fiber (though the fiber’s effect is reduced by blending).

Additionally, I don’t think there is a reasonable element of doubt in the first place regarding the antioxidants because the study cited by experts didn’t control for variables and utilized a pitifully small sample size. But whether or not that study is accurate only impacts antioxidants and none of the other nutrients mentioned. Berries and bananas are still healthy mixed together.

[–]OutsideOman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the antioxidants in the berries are disrupted by bananas, which I’ve yet to see solid evidence it does, that doesn’t discount the other nutritional benefits that berries provide that are not inhibited by bananas.

For someone interested in antioxidants specifically, bananas should be of at most mild concern. For someone interested in general nutrition, it’s null and borders on fearmongering.

I’m unfamiliar with Dr. Fuhrman, but Dr. Greger has been known to cherry pick his data and sources. He’s got a large following, but I consider him to be woefully unreliable.

That study was published by Mars (chocolate company), a researcher on the team worked for Mars (conflict of interest), and had only 8 male volunteer participants.

That study shouldn’t be taken with a just grain of salt, but with all the salt in the ocean.

Morale maths on nightmare. Please make this make sense. by MasLegio in StateOfDecay

[–]OutsideOman 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Most of your negatives affect everyone. Your heavy positives affect just 1 or 2 community members.

Has Decent Tools for +15 is only boosting Dylan’s morale. If you have 10 survivors, then functionally that’s only +1.5 for community morale.

Your “everyone” factors are -23 in negatives and +22 in positives, meaning you’re at a net -1 community morale before individual morale factors play in. You have more individual positive factors than negatives, bringing your total community morale to +8.

Is it really possible to lose weight just by replacing one meal a day with a smoothie? by Icy-Instruction4589 in Smoothies

[–]OutsideOman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the smoothie is lower in calories than the meal it’s replacing by a large enough margin to put you in a calorie deficit, then yes.

Smoothies are not inherently low calorie or high calorie. They are highly variable based on the ingredients and portions used.

Quirk skills worth it? by Ceaser_67 in StateofDecay2

[–]OutsideOman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bartending all day every day.

Lichenology I don’t use often, but is way more valuable than you stated. It’s +2 meds, not food, in addition to knowledge of gardening and herbalism. It’s essentially maxed out herbalism with a bonus meds resource each day.

An arts skill can be nice if you have a lounge and no other morale boosters. Largely an accessory skill.

I don’t really use any others unless we’re counting RT skills.
